TC's factory 850's on Nitromethane rated 150 each and lasted some seasons w/o failure. So starting with Maney 920cc, 10.5 CR, large Combat head with Dreer decent 10,000+ tested rpm valve train, factory size valves, cyrogenic tempered everything with, tappered open lower bore for thermal friction extremes ~10 PSI Drouin blower (not compressor) and anti-detonation fluid spray tank - what other power adders possible and tolerate-able? With just 15%-ish water per fuel mass 91 oct no lead pump gas can reach 112-ish octane, which online calculators imply allow full torque ignition timing I got a couple more ideas but wonder what rest the world can offer. Any guesses on potential so far?

Before I can venture a guess as to how much power a long stroke, pushrod, air cooled parallel twin of 80 year old design will make, you need to mention "for a little while", or "reliable, street driven" "race use only" etc.

But the question was what else can be added for more power ,and what are tolerable

If you keep adding stuff and never finish & ride it, what good is it, really?

All good projects attract a few doubters.

Arent the Maney cases good for about 100 HP?

Whats left to do before startup?

Glen

My question would be exactly how much power can you push through a Norton gearbox and have it last?

Right, that is a weak point.
Looks like Steve has that covered, I see a TTI in there.

Spiffed up Norton big blocks crank hp range is 80's for common configurations to Maney's report of 100.4. Half a bar atmosphere ~7.5 psi boost would add about 50% more - if can tolerate full ignition advance w/o detonation. Bruce McGregor with identical upgraded Drouin on 850 says can spike to 15 psi. I've interviewed/done business with 3 Norton dragsters, one with supercharged engine all said AMC box vomits parts on track approaching 100 hp handling. In past Harley tranny adapted before TTI offerings. To get mass of Peel & me into mid 9 sec>140s mph, 1/4 mile will require 130's hp/torque plus drag slick with tucked down forks. BMW SR1000 with Guy Martin on almost breaks into 9 sec 1/4 m on road race rear.

Of late delayed by stranded tractor in middle of Blackberry canes, hauled out by 4wd PU that took all summer to recover, with annoyance of 12,000lb winch wire failure work around in field, to discover last user of dual axle trailer cracked its back and bent axle hubs but teen's & single digit cold delayed finishing by X-mass, while chasing free loading renters out, this week used up with police/FBI and death row buddies to scare 4 of em to return the major appliances stolen away 200 miles before they could get away, but they cut power after they busted holes in vinyl covered walls and ripped thermostat off which I got spare installd heating again on but not before water supply to 6 dwelling burst so spent last pm 18'F under trailer after billiard ball driving around to source many fitting and pipe way pass building supply closed, before return to relax reading accessnorton useful to nasty remarks. In between creating legal contracts and trusts/trustee's to lawful operate outside IRS reach so I can keep all $ale of 30 acres mini subdivision hopefully in reasonable condition after dead brother drank and drugged the place down along with the drinker druggers he'd rented to. Still had time to log 100 trees and slice dice split for home heat, road and view clearing. All intersected by suffering patients at all hours of day, especially holidays time off and often because too bad to work - saying I'm the only one ever helped them so worth hr+ trip to clinic. Would had more Peel & Trixie diddling time/desire if Dale and Wesly still around. For relief of PSTD depression I must constantly be learning something so fall asleep for a few hours after neck traction learning about various gas atoms and molecules signalling in cells or quark/gluon plasmas mysteries of black hole recycling into Plank scale emissions as it might relate to radionics/
pyshcotronics symbolic therapy devices. Occasionally still energy-time to incite Alicia after 30 yr for a date. My remaining 'close' friends know to never ask me how I am, as hate lying to em.

One of my 2EX1 exhausts will extract the most available torque!!!
What sort of theoretical torque figures do you think it will make?
Make it reliable before looking at huge HP numbers

Steve, without reading anything into what I typed (I don't use smileys for a reason), I'm TRYING to politely ENCOURAGE you to assemble the bike and ENJOY it.

I think you can have it roadworthy for the first ride in perfect time to enjoy cool weather peak riding...

I would never presume to underestimate what your bike MIGHT be able to do, but I'd rather see pix of you out and about on it...

Just get 'er runnin'. Easy for me to say.

I have the same problems, too many projects, not enough time for me to do 'em all and not enough money (or trust) to pay others to do 'em either.

And then . . . . there's those days when I just don't want to . . . do anything

Yoose guys have hard time staying on point but kind of think I might die quicker on Peel so devoting spare money/time/creativity wasted on making it so. If 130's mph were enough to beat elites in opens there'd be no need to replace Norton factory parts d/t Peel tri-linked power handling and braking advantage of 110 tire and hobot roadholders.

OIF just needs oil manifold pipes bent to short radius elbow and oil temp tap into return hose, but got head oil cooler and bypass filter mounts/plumbing done. Still lack neck down to 1/8" hose feed to head after 90' -6 AN fitting with small thermometer JBW in to see head oil temp reduction. About $500 for just these items.

Brakes lines custom ordered connected few mo's ago, solid state chopper relay box with dozens of circuit electrics laid out but not connected but ready for $2000+ data logger.

Air lines and valves on hand but not begun connecting nor tested box swing-arm expansion tolerance to 100PSI yet either. As have to build robust cable winch frame to see how much force required to suck forks down 4" of the 6" travel against strongest fork springs ever fielded in Commando to select air cylinder for repeatable Hole Shot Device and tail end tucker downer when not hi centering off road in/out creeks, ravens and wash outs.

Weapon systems, paint ball blunderblusts and Navy flare pistol for rocksalt/pepper mostly figured out and ready to assemble except for helmet pointed bb zip gun.

Ugh more delays, sheriff just called so off to deal with mobile home vandalized and check if my brust pipe repair last pm 18'F under trailer still holding for other families about to brust their pipes w/o water flowing. Would have to kill ya if revenge details revealed.

Man o man we all go through life troubles with loosing close family and friends, having to deal with drugged out people who have lost the plot, myself at the moment dealing with a life time mate who has lost the plot from over medacaion to drinking cheap wine in a box everyday for years that has cooked his brain, I have treated him as my own brother and helped him out since we were kids to be now treated as his worst enemy and I haven't done nothing to him to deseve this, so I know how you feel Steve, for me I treat every day as it comes, do the things I enjoy, if it take me ages to build something who cares, I work at my own pace, do things right the first time.
I have always followed your projects and the crazy way you do things but hey we are all crazy in some of the things we all do and as others here I look forward to seeing the final ms Peel but life always gets in the way in what we really want to happen, as they say thats life.
I wish you all the best and hope your luck turns for the better and we see you on the bike sooner than later, take care my friend.

Hardly anything to add. Is there? It does cause one to wonder where the time came for over 18,000 posts. Some 1,500 hours @ 5 minutes per post.

This story and Norton resurrection project would make a great TV show along the lines of what the American series 'Grease Monkey Garage' and 'Counting Cars' do.
Take a long unfinished project vehicle and give it to specialty experts to finally finish it along the lines of the owners original intent.
Then roll back the curtain and watch the owners face light up on seeing the dream machine now a running reality.

I'd watch it!

I cried because I had no shoes, then I saw a man with no feet...

WOW! What a story. And, to think that this isn't your autobiography, but just a chapter.

Rocky Point Cycle offers to sponsor your fasteners as long as your rocket ship can tolerate sub 100,000 psi 316/304/18-8 stainless.

No no no having someone else do it is just not on, lots claim building their own but they payed someone else to do all the work, how do you get to know your own bike if someone else does it for you, I worked with a trades man who claimed he restored all his old Sunbeam cars but in realality he was bad at what ever he touched and he always got others to do the restoration on his cars, I was his TA as a fitter and turner to him but I did all the machining work as he was so bad at his trade he didn't even know how to use a milling machine, lucky we had another trades man with us.
