Ok what's the most outragous potentail hourse power per cubic inch a Commanod type engine might survive for a time and how? TC on nitro got at least 150 hp/54cid so 3hp/cid is realistic. Oh yeah just sucks if not boosted. Welding head to the alu barrel allowed on a non streetable engine. Certainly can do better than an ole Drouin to pump up cubes and turbo's known to make most effecient HI power which is in comnoz camp. Then there's fast and furious Canaga dumping NOS fishtailing on brine. Don't think anyone's over torqued even a factory crank [rpm whips them all] so basically has to be a torque vs hp beast. Surely can whip the Gulf Streamliner's ancient 850's. For the brainac's get back with some thermal flow figures on TC's engine vs a 50 hp Combat. How would ya dump that much over a Texas Mile or Salt Flats?

Scope of sane to silly

Well, lets see, a top fuel HD gets about 2000 hp, and they are generally about double the cubes of a Commando.
So, 1000 hp should be possible. ??
Thats about 1250 hp per litre, or approx 20 hp per cubic inch, very broadly speakin.

For a 6 sec pass, the crank only needs to survive for about 700 revs, plus a few for startup and stageing.
With the head bolted down to the cases with over and under through-bolted plates, it might just about do it.
The tank would need to be bigger than a stock roadster, even an Interstate tank may not hold enough nitromethane
for 6 seconds of full throttle running. ?
You'd probably need a spare engine or 6 for each pass you planned on doing, they may not hold together terribly well (!!!!!).

Tell us how it goes !!!?

If you can afford to waste good commando motors like that, why wouldn't you try to find a saner more exhilarating class of competition for your bike. Japanese motors are throw-away items - use those instead. I'd rather build a bobber using a commando motor than blow the shit out of it being stupid.

Relax, no need to blow a gasket, hobot was jist askin, all theoretical like ??
And probably got way more answer than he was bargaining on....

And I'd suspect it would take YEARS of development to make a Commando engine give, let alone survive, even 6 seconds of 1000 hp,
anyone with half a brain should have spent at least 10 milliseconds figuring that out for themselves.
You don't just do that to a HD engine either, they are seriously purposeful bits'o'kit to do that....

Yep just wanting to hear the ridiculously realistic factoids beyond anything I could afford to waste. Cabling/strapping of head to cradle is on my mind though. Back down to lower orbit than top fueler burning away plugs to nubs about half was down drag strip to purely diesel away its pistons by the end, circle track cars I've seen run on flat track dirt ovals often have manifolds packed in dry ice and tube of dry ice tube for fuel to pass trhough in passenger space. Too bad New Norton spent its excesses on some off brand race cycle rather than RD on boosted streetable twin. Still hoping a braniac can ballpark the heat flow of 50 to 200 hp or even 300 hp just for kix.
