Finally got the power commander v installed

WOW, What a difference, totally different bike to ride .

Great at low rpm around town slow speeds.

Great at high rpm on open roads.

Not looking for amazing HP just a nice stable running engine .

Looking forward to getting out and riding the Norton now :)

thank you for your advices.
I've just did the same mods on my 2015 961 and got the same results on the dyno 73hp at the wheels.
The bike is smoother , and run so much better.
It definitely needed to be tuned properly.

Awesome news

I now have 2000km on the power commander and no regrets .

cheers

Good Job Guys ! You are really doing a great service for 961 owners.

You should be able to just ship your OMEX ECU to your dealer to have it remapped, least I had my OMEX ECU remapped by doing that.
The dealer will need a donor bike with the same Ecu if you just ship the ECU, just like it says above.

I am running the Dominator map with a custom Exhaust setup, I am very happy so I will wait but with great interest on this. The dealer the op got this from should supply a kit with the Power Commander and the correct map. The setup that the op is running with de-cat and gutted stock pipes would match what many of us are already running with open pipes and de-cat!

Many dealers do not have a dyno or the expertise that this Steve guy at PowerHouse Dyno has hence I think suppling a plug and play kit would be a big seller for him.
You mention the air filter is after market, who makes it?

For sure.
I've been to several dyno shops here in NYC.
All Harley shops, and none had any interest what so ever in tuning a Norton.

I'm hoping I can find a Jap bike shop with a dyno. I'm sure they will be more inclined.

PC for my 961 is on my shopping list.

I could care less about putting my bike on a dyno. I would just love to tune it where it runs flawlessly without this minor little quirks. I've developed quite a vibe at 3700 rpm but very rarely hang out there for very long any way. Just passing through.

You want the dyno testing to get the PC fueling map spot on.
Otherwise the canned map you install on PC may not have the best AFM for your bike/situation.
On the dyno results show the AFM at every rpm point in the powerband under load.
Then the tech just tweaks the the PC fueling map to get the AFM to the sweet spot for easy starting, strong cold idling, and max performance.

Point well taken. Keep me posted. I'd be up for it and since we're not too far from each other................

Again this makes my point for a kit provided by Powerhouse for a de-catted 961 with a freer flowing exhaust. Although not as spot on as an individual dyno for each bike it would be far more precise a map then what most of us have now. I suspect for many of us getting a 961 dyno tuned could be almost impossible and has not happened in almost 4 years of trying! None of the local dyno guys in my area would attempt it no matter how much money I offered them. Now any of my Harleys its like " How's Saturday for you?".

I have a map for my Shelby that was done by a guy in Indiana ( one of the top 2 or 3 Mustang tuners in the US ) and the AFR's are a straight line , perfect! Every time I dyno that car the operator says "who tuned this, wish I could say it was me" The guy has never been within 300 miles of my car, he e-mailed it to me! He has done hundreds but my point is it can be done!

Fred, although your description is technically correct, "just tweaking the map" requires a huge amount of experience, skill and talent. Those that can do it are revered and can make a living at it! I have been present at several dozen different tunes and those that make it look easy are usually very talented, have decades of experience and are specialists for a certain motor or brand. They also have software and equipment geared to their specialty. This is why I think this guy at Powerhouse is a find. I know a few others have done it, but my experience is that it is more art then science the first time on a new ECU / vehicle combo!

Bob,

I’m not downplaying the skill required to fine tune a PC, was just saying that the hard part is finding a tuner who will even do the work on a Norton at all. I’m going to see if Orient Express in Brentwood Long Island is will to give it a shot. I know they build and race drag bikes, and build engines for customers. They have a DynoJet dyno in their facility. This is a really big bucks outfit, so if they do agree to work on my Norton it won’t be cheap.

Hi guys
I have just spoken to Steve at powerhouse
I suggested sending the map over, he said the different fuel types between the country's would make your bikes run to lean on my map and would be of no advantage.
He said that your bikes need to be tuned for the conditions and fuel avalible at the installation of the power commander.
And if anything happened to another bike on my map then, my name would be mud .
Any competent installer of the power commander with a dyno should be able to create a map for your individual bike.

Cheers
Paul

Paul,

Steve is correct. The map needs to be developed for local conditions.
I just have to find a tuner within reasonable distance.
The search continues...

Well....I guess we just have to keep trying! Having the right part number will be a big help, thanks Paul!

Paul,

Thanks.
Yes, I used the DynoJet site to find shops nearby.
Unfortunately, some are out of business even though they are still listed on the site.
Quite a few are Harley shops that told me they will not tune a Norton.
Orient Express builds and tunes Jap drag bikes so it's my next stop.
