Finally got the power commander v installed

WOW, What a difference, totally different bike to ride .

Great at low rpm around town slow speeds.

Great at high rpm on open roads.

Not looking for amazing HP just a nice stable running engine .

Looking forward to getting out and riding the Norton now :)

Power Commander V p/n 12-009

$800 AUS Installed and tuned.

Best money spent on bike so far .

Opened up the air intake to 90 mm

Nice Job Paul ! Sweet installation as well , looks like it all fits under the seat . Where does it plug in ? Did you get a before dyno run as well ? Is the air filter home made or a kit ? More than 73hp SAE wonderful .!

Great news!
Anything that improves the Norton's agricultural EFI system is a plus.
Hopefully the PC will arrive here in US before long.

Wow. 74 ponies at the engine? Pretty impressive. Is that unit a prototype or is it now in production? Love your air filter design too.

I still cannot get a response from Dynojet in the UK in respect of when or if these will be available here. If anyone knows better please let me know. Thanks

Thanks Guys

The power commander is for a BMW F800

This same unit was fitted and tested on a bike in the UK a few months back .

Fitted at Powerhouse Dyno who is a Power Commander dealer .

Everything plugs in accept the tps which he used pozi-clips, I will source a tps plug to remove the pozi-clips.

The air filter is off the shelf pack with a stainless mesh and filter material ,I just made the tread plate bracket off the standard with different size intake holes.

74 horses at the rear wheel with now a very stable air/fuel ratio makes the bike a pleasure to ride .

Omex ecu with

6500102_R1 V2 Norton Dominator Stock.OMEX 630.01N31 Map

The Commando Maps ran crap when loaded ,would hunt at idle, run lean with standard airbox .
Dominator map ran the best but was rich, opened up airbox intake .

Being such a low volume bike ,I would be surprised if Dynojet developed a unit specifically for the 961 ,
But lets wait and see.

Cheers

Have you guys got any leads on the tps connector ?

The sensor also fits: Citroen / Fiat / lancia / Peugeot.

Great news Paul,

It was good to speak to you about this the other day, and to hear that it has been a success. My 916 CR is hesitant low down so I am very interested in fitting the Power Commander. Can you please identify the organisation that fitted it.

Best regards.

I opened up the forum page...12 new thread updates and went straight to this!

That looks very very neat.

Any more info is appreciated for your brethren down south .

Awesome!

Thanks for the positive replies :)

Ok I had it fitted and tuned by Steve at Powerhouse Dyno on the Gold Coast (07) 5502 1822

Give Steve a call he is a very knowledgeable man and happy to assist.

This can be done by any competent motorcycle shop that deals with Power commander and has a dyno.

The Part number is 12-009 which is for a BMW f800 .
The same unit was fitted to a 961 in the UK a few months back.
I would be surprised if Dynojet will bring out a unit for our bikes due to the low build numbers.

The unit plugs straight in to the injectors , however the tps plug dosn't match but can be pozi-clipped to existing wiring, until i hunt down the right plug for the tps .
Also the oxygen sensors need to be disabled, I installed 330 ohm resistors in the plugs. so it dosnt bring up the engine light.

Richard-7 Do you have any info on the plug ?
The tps also fits: Citroen / Fiat / lancia / Peugeot

The airbox filter is a aftermarket air-filter kit with stainless mesh and filter foam, the top ring is alloy tread-plate cut to same size as existing plastic ring with a 90 mm intake compared to the original 65mm intake.

I have 74 hp at the rear wheel now and 59 NM torque, with the correct air fuel ratio, but more important the bike runs flawlessly and is a joy to ride now .

My bike is running standard exhaust ,debaffled and decatted , 90 mm airbox intake

My recommendation get the power commander if nothing else :)

Great news. I was considering fitting carbs over the winter but using the PC should be a lot simpler/cheaper.

I do have a few questions however:

Does the model number you refer to (12-009) come with the correct plugs/sockets to connect directly with the Norton ECU?
Is there an ignition/fuelling map already installed or does the tuner with a rolling road have to create these?
Does anyone know if the ECU sockets are the same across all model years and ECU types?

Thanks

Roger

Hi Roger
The PC doesn't connect to the ecu .
The model 12-009 has the correct plugs for the injectors but needs the poz clips for the tps.
This should work with both the Omex and SC ecu types.
Here is a link for the installation

Yes Steve has created a specific map for the norton to sort the fuelling .

total cost $800 AUS

That includes the custom dyno map and installation.

I have just got back from a ride 200km and wow what a difference it has made to the bike.

cheers

Roger

The PC exists between the ECU and the injectors.
The PC has connectors that you plug the OEM injector signal lines into.
Then you plug the PC injector lines in the the OEM injectors.

The PC works simply by modifying on the fly the signals that the OEM EFI unit is sending to the injectors.

I am surprised though that this installation requires plugging of the stock O2 sensors.

When I first spoke to Steve about this his first words were the oxygen sensors need to be disabled,
Here is a explanation from the dynojet site :

I didnt pay $54 for the correct plug x2,
I bought 100 x 330 ohm resistors off ebay for $2.38 which do the same job :)

A 'closed loop clean air' system is used on some bikes to read the Oxygen sensor (lamda) located in the exhaust pipe and, under certain conditions, temporarily change the air/fuel ratio to the stochiometric value of 14.7:1. This is to provide a chemically efficient burn for low rpm cruising and to aid emissions. The closed loop circuit has a very limited operating range, which is only in effect while holding a steady speed at certain rpm's and throttle positions. Any adjustments to the Power Commander will have no effect in this area, as the bikes system re-adjusts accordingly to 14.7:1. This ratio, while good for the environment, creates flat spots and a lack of torque that is required in certain instances, even in the low rpm area. The Oxygen sensors can be disconnected but this will trip the F.I. warning light on the bikes dash.

cheers
Paul

Paul,

Interesting.
Taking the O2 sensors out of the game entirely.
So I suppose the tuner is simply adjusting the PC on the dyno to provide the necessary fuel pressure/AFM for max power at each transition point in the PC map.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Paul,
Who installed the Dominator map for you? Did you have to take the whole bike or were you able to ship the ECU? Mines an Omex as well and the dealers don't have any other bikes with Omex, so I have to ride or ship the bike from Wellington to Auckland.....

Hi Kiwi961

I had the map installed by the dealer over here when they did the ecu and throttle body upgrade from the old SC ecu to the omex.
When they did the remap the bike would hunt on the commando maps so they loaded the dominator map, it ran rich but it settled the idle down .

Cheers

You should be able to just ship your OMEX ECU to your dealer to have it remapped, least I had my OMEX ECU remapped by doing that.
