I have a reverse camplate and would like to know someone has a picture of which side the spindle is pressed in from. Or does Someone have a picture of one installed in the casing.
I am rebuilding the box with new mainshaft kick start shaft sleeve gear bushes both of the first gears and both second gears and other gear bushes. The box worked well but the replacements are all due to normal wear and the normal idea that tho it is just little worn in for a penny in for Penny in for a pound (well lots of pounds). All parts are AN genuine and the camplate is form Mick Hemmings. But when all assembled it doesn't seam to shift correctly or smoothly as it did before an I think I may have the camplate in incorrectly.

If no answer here I've found vendors to be a wealth of info to get on with it.

If you have the camplate incorrect, the indexing plunger doesn't have any notches to notch in to ??

Inspect the selector forks closely, and maybe try switching them over ?
They are not quite identical ??

The selector forks are in the original positions in relation to each other. They are the same part an even have same number in parts book 040022.
The camplate has extra notches cut in to the plain side an indexes correctly without the selectors in place.
All other new parts fit correctly an so I am thinking it is something to do with camplate and way the selectors move in their tracks.

This week a set of installation instructions came from Mick Hemmings out of the blue. I had not been in touch about it an the camplate came before Christmas with some other parts.
Does Mick look at this site I wonder or is Angela a mind reader ?????

My bike or at least my large pile of parts is at my parents house 30 miles away an I have not been able to get much done on it as I am looking after my ill wife and our 2 kids but the instructions do explain how to install plate so am hopeful they can help.

Hi Toppy,
Can you post up the instructions (and a photo if you have one) for the orientation of the reverse camplate? Norvil and Andover are backordered on the part so I am going to try to notch the plate myself and I would like to confirm the placement and procedure.
Thank you, Darren

His is a blast from the past. I don't have pictures of the camplate but i have some instructions that came from Mick Hemmings that may be of help to you. PM me your Email an I'll send you photos of them.

So... I have finally got "Phil-O" (named after Phyl Lynnott) back together and running nicely. However, It's NOT engaging the gears properly - It's not grabbing first gear at all... and second, third, and fourth take two pulls to engage. It seems that the shift lever is not pushing the quadrant far enough to engage each gear. I was thinking of "re-clocking" the quadrant but it doesn't seem to be pushing the gear far enough in either direction.

Does anybody have any thoughts or suggestions before I open the gearbox??? REMEMBER, it was shifting fine in the GP pattern before I reversed the camplate .

Thanks for any suggestions,
Darren

It was a 6 month frame-off restoration with side stand upgrade, complete wiring harness, 3 phase alternator, Podtronics rectifier, H4 halogen headlight, new Isolastics and Head Steady, Bob Newby Belt Primary Drive, Lansdowne fork spring set, all stainless hardware, stainless re-spoking of the wheels, polish all aluminum parts, and reversing the shifter camplate for standard - one down, three up, shifting.

Here are pics of the whole process:

Enjoy, Darren

i had difficulty getting the GB to shift between the gears after changing the 2 return springs under the GB cover. the new quadrant spring was too tight. if you have new spring there it may be part of the problem...

found this article, not sure ifit might help

i had a look at the pictures, nice rebuild. now about that cam plate, it looks to me like you have taken a regular cam plate and flipped it, then cut the notches in their respective locations? i am now looking at the prodigal son on the bench and think i might also like to do the swap. so if you don't mind filling in a little between the pictures...

thanks
