Can anyone tell me if they have ever come accross a distributor of Akront/Morad WM4x19 Flanged (Pea Catcher) wheels? I am quite adamant that I want the flanged style in that size of wheel .

Heaven knows why you want such wide rims for a 19 inch wheel, there doesn’t appear to be a tyre on the market to fit them :?:

That is actually the specified rim for the Avon AM26 100/90-19 that many of us are running now on WM2 rims.

As for Gearhead Racing...those guys understand graphics, check out their contact page.

DID brand came standard on my '73 yam, someday I'd like to get the same treatment on the Commando. Be sure to allow an additional 50% clean time

According to the Avon website, the Am26 100/90-19 tire has a recommended rim width of 2.50 inches. That is a WM4 rim. Alternate rim widths are 2.15 to 2.75, so a WM2 at 1.85 inches is below the recommended width. Take a look at the specs on the link provided, I'm not making it up.

ole Ms Peel whipped ass against balloon tire cycles with twice her power up to the ton in dangerous Mt. passes and bluff face wagon roads with frost heaved pavement till point all alone solo and *Knowing* when the tires would let go I picked up the pace a lot more into phase 3 and 4 handling which puts whole mass + momentum inertia on tiny deforming rear patch to launch and land on the 120 size tire on WM3 rim w/o any tire/rim fit issue to worry one whitworth about. To get to the nice easy stuff above I must cross THE Gravel wash borads holes stones and ruts which is sometimes more that I feel able to take off so don't ride some days d/t the risk taking mood I'm in. Next Peel has fitted a 130 tire to alloy WM3 rim. When I fitted the 110 size on WM3 I almost couldn't make in to pavement on Ms Peel torque response and on pavement I couldn't get as much launch grip as the 120. When I put the 120 on Trixie Combat it made her fell like ballerina with mud filled work boots on pavement but made her safer to hang Gravel sweepers. So in reality there is a political or legal reason for the tire size-rim width charts not life and death safety and handling hi power far over turning. On top of breaking the fitting 'rules' I also ran these mis fits at lower tire pressure to cross THE G. Point being if there was any danger to over shoot tire/rim fit then it would of shown up with me.

I've really been pensive of the charts so looked and looked at what could go wrong - the Only thing I could fit is nebulous warning that the tire could over heat in some areas and wear faster. So who's advice will you follow a stupid hick in the woods or the major manufacturers...

Anyone seen a tyre contact patch graphic comparison? How aspect ratios [length to width 'footprint'-wise] affect steering/handling /roadholding?
I note that one of Casey Stoner`s concerns with tyre chatter this year..
'With the new tyres, there`s no difference in grip level from the edge to the fatter part of the tyre. So, for the guys who like running corner speed, its the perfect tyre. They can run in , keep it hot & still get good grip on the exit. I like to ride the bike to the apex a little more, pick it up & drive it out..but when we pick it up, no part of the tyre gives us more traction; we get just as much grip on the side of the tyre.
I grew up in dirt-track...we had to pick up the bike & drive it out of corners.'
The chatter...has always been worse on the right...the fact thats it's different left to right is very peculiar; it means chassis stiffness is different left to right. But yeah, chatter can make you pull your hair out. If we had less electronics & less edge grip, even just less electronics, people would be a lot more afraid of getting on the gas on the edge of the tyres."

Alrighty if Stoner mentions tire chatter issues and claims its because new tires grip as much on edge as upright - then music to my ears on a tammed Commando with extra radius in them from fitting to too small a rim. The main thing going for big fat tires is spreading the heat out more so don't melt as easy on power.

This, I think is a typing error.

WM4= 2.5 inches width. What I ran into on modern with wider tire than recommended was it was too easy to get past its edge on far over leans and took more effort to fling around is all. I've hunted for yeas to find the downside of say 120 tire on WM3 online and by practice but only found some ambiguous warnings it could over heat in areas and wear faster but nothing that applied to Commandos meager powering on them. Fit what ever don't foul the chain nor frustrate with added mass boots on a ballerina - unless rather more power than a factory Combat, then more meat helps hook up on leans and loose stuff. I didnn't like 120 on my Trixie Combat WM3 merely because of the extra force and delay to fling around. Racers say they are faster on the wider rims so some day will have to try wider rims on next Peel to see if I can detect the effect but right now don't expect it will apply to Peel.
