Anyone seen a tyre contact patch graphic comparison? How aspect ratios [length to width 'footprint'-wise] affect steering/handling /roadholding?
I note that one of Casey Stoner`s concerns with tyre chatter this year..
'With the new tyres, there`s no difference in grip level from the edge to the fatter part of the tyre. So, for the guys who like running corner speed, its the perfect tyre. They can run in , keep it hot & still get good grip on the exit. I like to ride the bike to the apex a little more, pick it up & drive it out..but when we pick it up, no part of the tyre gives us more traction; we get just as much grip on the side of the tyre.
I grew up in dirt-track...we had to pick up the bike & drive it out of corners.'
The chatter...has always been worse on the right...the fact thats it's different left to right is very peculiar; it means chassis stiffness is different left to right. But yeah, chatter can make you pull your hair out. If we had less electronics & less edge grip, even just less electronics, people would be a lot more afraid of getting on the gas on the edge of the tyres."
