Who else enjoys fishing ?

We fish every year at a small lake in the interior of B.C. I prefabbed the small cabin in the shop at home, then assembled it all with screws to make sure everything fit. It was fairly easy to disassemble then pack into an 18' Stock trailer & the F350 for the 300 mile trip to the lake. A neighbour and I reassembled it in a couple of days. That was in 2000 and we've not had to work on it since. Small and simple, not much to go wrong.

The fishing can be very good, but not always of course. The rainbows are very large as the lake is full of freshwater shrimp. We get lots of four and five pounders. Our largest to date is 9 pounds. Four of us have been going here for 20 years now.
We sometimes bring dirt bikes as there are endless logging roads and fire roads to explore.
Our place was taken out of a large ranch, so we only have the ranch as neighbours.

That's some serious dedication to establish your accommodation at such a tranquil looking spot...well done....smoked trout is hard to beat..

What a gorgeous setting worntorn. How is the Pike and Walleye population in your lake? I have friends who fish the Dean every year chasing Steelhead with Spey gear. Tough spot to get into in many different ways.
You live, IMHO, in one of the prettiest places on the planet.

In my younger days my dad and his mate had a fishing hut up at Coochin Creek they had a 99 year free hold lease, they spent a lot of time up there, it's veranda was the jetty, it was 2 huts join together and could easily sleep 10, one day the forestry department came a long and knocked them all down without any warning at all.
They caught a lot of big mud crabs up there and good estuary fishing and some big mozzies/sand flies as well.

We are going to be arriving in S Island late next week. Super excited to go fishing with my family…

Great photos
Hi Jerry D the fishing down in the South Island is great...I hope you catch a good feed of fish 🐟 and have a great time in New Zealand

Nothing better than going fishing with mates, the family or the kids no matter whether you catch anything or not, spending time together in the great outdoors, sit around a fire telling stories of that big one that got away with a few beers with the mates and off course the fish stories the fish were always bigger than what you did catch.
One of my best times was crabbing with my dear old dad we spent a lot of time together chasing those big mud crabs, but when he crabbed with his mates I saw a lot of things that were illegal catching Jennies and keeping Jennies which is illegal in my state only the bucks are legal and have to be the legal size and going way over their pot limits as well bag limits, to me I only catch what I can eat fresh nothing better than catch, clean and cook straight up and that was the best way to eat mud crabs straight out of the cooker or off the hot coals, I am not greedy and I don't like freezing fresh fish.
I have fished some out of the way secret fishing spots no one else knows about and spent time camping there, but of course everyone has that secret place, when I go bush for a few days on the bike I always take a hand line and a little tackle with me you never know what you find exploring, next year a planned trip up to Cape York in the Land Rove to visit my cousin, his cattle station (Southwell Station) is between the Edward river and Harrold river (western side of the Cape), some great fishing, crabbing and of course big crocs up there.
Last time I was up there was in 1990 just after I got married and before the kids came along when my dad was up there, he had an old ex-army Land Rover at the time.

You down under guys are making me jealous with those reports of good fishing and all that beautiful scenery. Makes me wonder if I made a mistake not emigrating to AU back in 1969.

I think we will be going fishing in Waitaki river estuary quite a bit.
Arguably the best place left on the planet for chasing big wild trout is NZ.
Patagonia is up there with it.
One of these days, if I can quit spending on motorcycles.
I hope you have the most excellent time down there J.D....and I see what you mean Lineslinger....I gotta get down there one of these days and try my hand at this.

Many years ago when my daughter was about 10 years old, I took her fishing on a jetty on Dunk Island. It is on the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of North Queensland. We were fishing at dusk when she caught half of a fairly big fish. Because a bit of that jetty dipped below water level, she was really afraid when we were walking back along it, towards the shore. I suppose if you watched Jaws, you might be worried. Sharks might be like crocodiles, which can jump out of the water to get you.
