Cool that there are still fish in the Pacific! They certainly aren't any worth having anywhere near the Midatlantic part of the US :(
If you like fishing for Bluefin tuna it is probably better now than it has been in many decades on the West Coast. I just read the other day they are still getting 100 to 200+ pounders. The Albacore have been missing for a long time, It's kinda hard to figure out what's going on but the fisherman are having a great time.

The Tuna migration is happening on both sides of our country at present...big north easterly at the moment is pushing that Tuna rich water closer to the coast im on at present...
The north Pacific gets hammered by the Chinese fleet that have taken over small island nations fishing quotas..in lew of dept
They have factory ships processing flat out with their trawlers feeding the factory ships constantly

We were anchored up in Lacinda bay on the westen side of Moreton Island in our 27' bay cruise for an over nighter, my youngest daughter was fishing off the back of the boat using one of those cheap kiddies $20 fishing rods full fiberglass rods and a smallest Alve reel with 4kg line, when she got something that she couldn't even reel of even hang onto she nearly went over the back before I grabbed her, what ever it was very heavy and the solid blank rod was creaking and cracking noise from the rod, took a bit to reel in to the back of the boat and to my surprise was a huge shark our boat was 9' wide and this shark was way over both sides of the boat, at a guess was well over 12', by this time it wasn't putting up much of a fight and kids being kids "can we bring it in dad" WTF that shark is not coming onto the back of the boat + I would not have been able to get it over the transom, that cheap kiddies rod and 4" reel is still in my shed and brought out for story time with mates over beers.
Moreton Island was an old whaling station back in the days and many world records from shark fishing was made in the days, long gone now but the whales are always visiting on their migration during out winter months, the old whaling station is long gone but the jetties and the place is made into a resort Tangalooma resort and a lot of the old whale chasers and other old wreaks have been beached on a sand bar to make a good break water and safe anchorage just up from the resort and large sand hills, Moreton Island is the second largest sand island in the world after Frazer Island and I live 17 miles across the bay from Moreton Island.

The tuna from the West Coast is as good as it gets, The Rock Cod is also awesome but has been restricted as to where you can fish them and bag limits are in place. What we call Rock Cod is not the same as East Coast Cod, Rock cod are fished very deep.

(PERSPECTIVE) Very much so ....Yes I appreciate you were not in a cage....and in that case I'd need power heads and two tanks for comfort šŸ¤£
Massive unforgettable experience alright...good on you...
They reckon the odds of being attacked by are shark are about the same as being struck by lightning šŸŒ©
Honestly, it was so long ago I'm pretty sure cage diving with sharks as it is known today had yet to be introduced.
The animal showed zero signs of aggression, and I never felt like there was any danger.
I was seriously distracted by this gorgeous Russian woman who was diving with her husband and kept spilling out of her suit top.

Rock Cod vs. Rockfish (stripe bass) maybe?

I have a few friends who live up at Agnes Water/1770 and is at the beginning of the Great Barrier Reef the reef is 1 1/2 hour run across open water and some great fishing at Xmas time and any holidays the 2 towns grow from the holiday makers and lots of off shore boats come up but talking to one of my mate's it's been blowing hard and no boats getting out in open water so good for the fishing stock but when there are lots of boats on the reef brings in the big sharks as well, when bottom bashing you have to bring the fish up quick but most of the time you only get the head.
Last time I was up there we were trolling for Mackerel around middle rock just off shore from Bustard Head lighthouse, my mate was on the rod and I was driving the boat when he hooked up on a big Mackerel as we stop and I was watching the action all of a sudden the big Mackerel leaped out of the water and following it a was an even bigger shark, it was like slow motion not far behind the boat, the shark took the whole Mackerel in full flight in one gulp, took the wire trace and all, it was one hell of a size shark, we just looked at each other in amazement with both of our mouths openo_O it was our first and only hook up that morning and a wet trip back to 1770 in an open boat.

Gloucester Massachusetts provides for great Tuna and cod fishing...dont it ?.sorry edited my earlier reply as I had my wires crossed with another rider....or should I say my line had a tangle in it :)

I think what scares people with whites is the fact that they are such inquisitive creatures and not necessarily want to eat you...Muff diving is a completely different sport :)

When I a kid we would go out on the head boats and would be worn out from catching fish. The last several times I went this century, there were a few sea bass caught - yuck! I also went flounder fishing a few times and only saw one flounder caught. I'm sure if you went far enough offshore there would be tuna and game fish. Cod were in short supply for a long time, I don't know if they have recovered.

I had a beach condo in Ocean City, MD. In the early 2000s I would surf fish and catch enough small blue fish or small weakfish (sea trout) for dinner but that took hours. Starting in about 2005 I didn't even catch those and about then they instituted a license to surf fish.

Probably and maybe the Carolinas and south as well. The Midatlantic states - nope!

Over fishing has its consequences...I enjoy flounder but that species has taken a hit also where I live not just from over fishing ...but from swans (not native to NZ) have desecrated the juvenile flounder that grow in the small inlets and harbours..as soon as the weather improves...im going fishing to feed my family and friends

Ocean City!!
I used to take my kids there! We had a place further down on St. Michaels MD that we would spend time in the summer but the OC beaches ere great!!

Fish that size will feed a lot of people for quite a while.

This is a photo of the Striped Bass I spoke of, or "Striper" as the common name/reference.
This is the primary species we pursue around the Chesapeake Bay but they are found in various bodies of water through much of the US.

My two favorite fish to eat are Cod, Walleye and anything caught and cooked within the hour. I am always the first one to start complaining about getting the shore lunch going and being hungry and "shouldn't we stop soon and get the fire going?"

Fresh fish eaten within a hour of landing ...you cannot beat...we often when out trolling pick up Bonito/skip jack tuna ...which alot of people use as bait down here.(commercial catch is exported and for can food)
I take the the back fillets off them ..wrap them with wrap and stick them on ice for a bit and then slice them up into thin pieces and we eat raw with a dipping sauce...beautiful !!

I used to do a lot of sea fishing off the shore, beachcasting, and also used to be a member of the UKSCF a casting tournament club - on land we would see how far we could cast/throw a 150g lead weight.
Anyway, I remember fishing with bruv-in-law on Chesil beach in Dorset. He reeled in a line of Mackerel and I grabbed one, still alive and kicking, head off, guts out and put it straight into a frying pan while it was still in its death throes. Nothing is fresher.

My place was 1 133rd Street (right on the beach). When my wife got sick, she spent about 1/2 the year there and I would go for the weekends. In the last few years I owned it I only went for 3 to 5 nights per year so it was time to sell - I definitely miss it though.

I fished a lot out of Ocean City and Outer Banks. Caught a lot of Tuna and Dolphin Fish back in the day. In the late 80s/early 90s, i caught a King Mackerel out of Ocean City. That was a rare catch (they don't go that far north, at least back then). So rare a local reporter came out to see it. It was quite tasty :)
