Whats a good fix for a worn neutral switch cam plate button?

I could file it and round it off, or try to machine a new one and press it into the plate then stake it, or leave it alone.

I couldn't find a button stocked in the states so I made one out of a bolt. Trial fitted the switch, had to get another switch as the one I was going to use was not consistent. It seems the bad one had an open end between the wire connections, inside you can see the plunger moving in and out. I would guess dirt build up in there is causing problems. The other switch had a black plastic piece covering that area and tested OK. Funny, the grade 5 bolt I used had marks in its polished dome only after a few times trying the switch in the trans.

FYI: That switch looks identical to a reverse light switch used on many British cars of the 60's and 70's. BL part number GAE190, Intermotor 54880.

Cheers,

cliffa.

I just welded a bump on the worn button and filed it to shape.
