I've tried to upload a couple of photos but I'm damned if I can work out how to do it !!!. All I've managed so far is to open a Photobucket account and upload the photos to that (as per the help section of this website).

So, "mouse over" the photo thumbnail on the Photobucket album page as that should open a drop-down menu?

If so, look for the "IMG code".

"Copy" it, then "paste" the IMG code into the message reply box.

The album the photo is in must be set to "Public".

If you need to, you can always contact me by PM and I will help you through it, step-by-step if necessary, or we can arrange for you to e-mail the photos to me, and I will include them in your posts.

There MUST be an easier way to do it

There will be, once Jerry releases the VIP membership scheme, as then VIP members will be able to upload images directly from their computers (however I think there will be a maximum file size limit which may also cause a few problems for our members if they have to reduce the image file sizes) however, we will wait and see what happens.

The only worry I would have is what happens if you somehow have a switch
failure whilst under way and suddenly you have no power....it could be
mighty unpleasant.
Sure, unlikely but unlikely Titanic was going to strike a berg . You have to
plan for the unlikely.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, a spring attached to a switch, kind of like the universal brake stop light switches, I just haven't found a very elegant way of doing it. I wasn't even going to use a relay if I could find a switch that will handle the 4 or so amps of just the Pazon. If the Pazon isn't energized, it won't start. Jay Leno has a setup that includes a buzzer, but I don't see any details.

A buzzer's a good thought... Have the buzzer go off if the switch is in the wrong position and the ignition powered... Should be a simply circuit to rig up with parts from Radio Shack. Did a similiar thing with the ignition switch on my Jaguar.

This way you don't need to worry about the whole damn bike cutting out on you if the switch fails.

So many points of failure with all the above rigging. If ridden regularly they won't be a problem, or in my case, maybe 1 time in 4 I have to drain the sump, not that big of deal really.

Well as my Norton is still sidelined with an oil pressure problem (long story), I have nothing better to do than think about this issue.

Been thinking about rigging a snap action switch (such as this http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/OMRON- ... vc=IDPBBZ2 ) up to a valve in the oil supply line. Switch will be normally closed, with a circuit taking a tap from the ignition line to a loud 12 VDC buzzer (such as this http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2102817 ).

This way if the ignition gets energized but the valve isn't completely open, the buzzer sounds. Seems like a better solution than having a relay to kill the ignition...

Cheers,

- HJ

It would be a lot easier to make one with a contact that grounded out the ignition when it was closed. It would depend upon your ignition system as to whether or not this was practicle.

Some ignitions, yes...some no!

Russ

Your suggestion is not fail-safe design, the previous one is.. that is, if a wire breaks or comes off, the engine will not run. Your kill switch suggestion would be able to run if it fails.

It needs to be an industrial cock designed to indicate when it is open or closed, then you can wire it up to break the ignition circuit . When I park my racer, I stuff a bolt up the oil delivery pipe, and tighten the hose clip. You still have to remember to reconnnect the feed before starting the motor, but at least you can see the pipe dangling - not so easy with a cock.
Try Foxboro . - You need the simplest form of this:

I kind of like geo46er's "fail safe" oil tap. It's both rudimentary and elegant at the same time, a bit like the Commando. Well done!

Cheers

If clever can configure mechanical fail safe like Peels ya can get to kicker of foot on peg w/o opening handle out the way. But can't argue if some think its an eye sore.
