This bolt was on the frame and I have no idea what it was for. It seemed really tight an I don't remember taking anything off it. I have no idea what it's for. The picture shows where it goes, it's on the right side of the bike. Hopefully the picture shows it well. It has some rubber on it if that helps.

Thanks

It thats the mid frame gusset then what you have there hold on a rubber covered wire loop that held some wires in place, at least on one of my 750's. Its about irrelevant other wise.

It looks like the remains of an oil tank top mounting rubber to me.

Bob.

Ditto...the tank mounts have a bolt molded into the rubber.

OH yeah, Lords cushion for oil tank screws on right there, I stand corrected.

That's what I thought, but hobot may have been right. If I'm correct, aren't the oil tank mounts studs with rubber in the middle and threads on each side? This is a bolt, and only the head has a thin rubber layer on it.

Only those who have bothered to dissect one know exactly what's inside an oil tank rubber. They do however have a hex at each end so it's a fair bet that they are actually two UNF screws with a section of rubber between. I'm sure that you have a broken oil tank mount there. They all do that, Sir ! :)

I think your takling about #2 in this picture, but I have both of those and they are intact. The bolt im asking about is on the other side of the bike, directly across from where the oil tank mounts on the mid-frame gusset.

I should have taken a better picture, but the frames getting powder coated right now so I wont have it back for a while.

It certainly looks like a broken oil tank rubber mounting to me, in which case it would be 1/4 UNF thread but with a 5/8 A/F hexagon?

That is also the frame hole where you'd expect to find the front rubber mounting.

Thats exactly what I originally thought, but both my oil tank rubbers are intact and on the tank right now, so i dont know where this thing came from

Well...your photo does show the hole where the front oil tank mounting usually fixes to the frame.

Yeah that's what's frustrating me about it because I know that my oil tank mounts are good and accounted for...but I can't figure out how this weird bolt got where the oil tank mounts.
