when you submit your V55 registration application the DVLA may also request you submit a NOVA certificate to prove that it is not an imported vehicle and duties and taxes are paid

if you have a Uk bike that is not currently held on DVLA records i think they still require a NOVA ref to issue registration

i would get in touch with HMRC prior to submitting your registration docs and get clarification i was advised by DVLA to get my vehicle on the NOVA system prior to submitting registration application

a couple of e mails may save you six weeks waiting if your application is rejected for not having the NOVA

Good luck

Interesting observation - from what I've seen it applies exclusively to imported vehicles, but I haven't got to this particular hurdle yet.
I suspect any official requesting such a submission when the vehicle clearly isn't an import isn't following the guidelines...
I certainly wouldn't put it past them though!

The Inspector was all for rejecting my Ducati because the number wasn't stamped on the headstock (it's on the LH rear engine plate). But his book says...

Was yours a UK bike or an import?

Andy,
don't know if this info is any use to you, but when I registered a bike a few years ago and was asked why it had never been registered I said it had been a race bike from new that I had civilianised, this was before all this Nova stuff.

The latest version of the NOC dating cert will confirm no Nova is needed if the records state the dealer was UK based. DVLA accepts this as long as its in the cert, if the factory records do not contain the dealer details then off to Nova people you have to go.
