My uncle will be visiting the UK next summer and want to see if there are any good bike shows the second half of July. I told him he needs to at least get to the National Motorcycle Museum. He also wants to get to the Sammy Miller Musuem. Anywhere else you'd recommend?

Your uncle will have a great time in the UK (and we need the money from visitors too :D). Bike shows in summer are a bit rare, come to think of it, summers are a bit rare in the UK too!!! and we tend to have the big shows in the spring or autumn. If he has a car he could travel about 170 miles from the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham down to the South of England to Beaulieu Motor Museum in Hampshire, loads of bikes and historic racing vehicles. In the same sort of area is Goodwood home of the 'Festival of Speed'.

There are probably lots more.

One of the challenges is that he won't drive over there, not unless you want to change the side of the road you drive on for a month.

Ah! no car! the trains are quite good, although pricey, they go 'inter city' so you can reach most cities with minimal changes of train. Or try National Express buses / coaches, a lot cheaper.
Be sure to let us know where he gets to on his holiday.

Regards the conversion to right hand driving, the last European country to convert to the right was Sweden in the 1960's, so there are only the stubborn Brits and Irish left! I think it adds to our quaintness :D

Plenty of driving on the left in this part of the planet,& yes dozy tourist drivers are a problem,so rentals have prominent warnings posted on the dash..

Yeah plenty of countries drive on the left but not in the Euro zone, in the major ports in UK there are a lot of bad lorry crashes due to a huge blind spot on right hand drive wagons!!! they are now fitting very large rear view mirrors to minimise collisions. And a common sign on the Isle of Man at the TT is 'Immer Links Fahren Bitte' excuse my German it roughly translates to 'keep left please you mad Germans' :D

  Very good!
I'd definitely recommend the sammy miller museum as posted earlier by Bernhard. Some amazing prototypes, and all the bikes are fairly accessible too, because of the great layout of the place. Great day out! Nice part of the world too.

Hi Dave

Shame he cant make the CRMCC race meeting at Donnington on the 9th 10th 11th of August.
Sammy Miller & the National will take a full 3 days to do. If he is passing through London that has a great little museum.
Might be an idea to look at the bike ckubs websites & see where the summer rallies are being held.

I don’t know about local rail stations, but there are trains to Southampton & Bournemouth from London. A local taxi ride will take you right to the door of the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum.

Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum
is located 15 miles west of
Southampton, 10 miles east
of Bournemouth.

Trails are mainly a autum/winter event here in the UK.
