Validate your jetting and needle positions on both side along with cable slack and slides.
Report back.

You say you are fouling on the left. This would most likely be a needle position issue or perhaps a worn needle jet and needle. You should see if both carb are equal in this respect. Or am I missing something here?

youre not missing anything . eye just didnt understand . this is only the second bike that i have worked on , the first being a yamaha i owned 20 years ago . i really appreciate the help, just not all ways sure what it means .

One basic procedure on unequal symptoms is to switch items electric to carb till symptoms switch with it or don't to eliminate stuff that comes in pairs outside engine.

No problem 007. Please, if you have any particular questions or concerned please feel free to throw them out here. Please keep us (the forum) posted on what you are doing. These experiences you are having help others as well as youself, particularly when things get resolved and communicated.

The more thorough you can be, the more specific we can be.

i nave always had a thing for the RD350 and the XS650.

Black smokes FUEL . Gey / White smokes OIL.

Black smoke for long enough will lead to white smoke , or both !

Old Hillman Hunters and pre 74 pommy cars have correct colour code wireing,
Stripping a loom out of a wreck will give you a lot of ikle pretty coloured wires
to string a new loom.

Primary circuits are simple.

Or ' Hot Wire ' do Direct ign / coil / contact breaker wires for TEST .

A coil should JUMP 1/2 in SPARK hooked to a healthy battery .
6 volt coils and either 6 or 12 Volt Lucas period coils are Not Quite the Full Quid ,
as far as a Hi Po Ign. system goes.
you can get ones with 10 to 20 times the grunt / Erg Potential about anywhere .

Coil Switch to check isnt a bad idea.

Often old hard lucas wireing exposed to engine HEAT cracks the insulation,
often behind tight awkward bends. We wont mention the points wire at the case exit :D
or where wires exit Alternator. :P

As often as not there gone there, Both .

Flogging engine bay wires from a car for fanct Brown / Green , Brown / red WIRES
,its 50/50 wether the heats got to them. Some are hard as, the odd time you find mint ones.

A Mk 4 Zepher has enough wireing to wire an aircraft carrier , or a squadron of Commandos .

eye wont have a chance to act on any advice till wed. [ 08/03] im back in chicago bikes in indiana . if were up to me eye would still be sweating , bleeding , cursing , eating grease , and exhaust fumes till it was road worthy . in the mean time 4 what its worth my brother in law told me that it sounds like it might be only firing on one piston . he is a bit of a gear head . please stay tuned THANKS
