Trailering

I am planning a year long trip around Australia in the next year or so in my Land Rover duel cab Defender and taking 2 bikes with me, my box trailer is set up for 2 bikes but I am thinking of building a fully inclosed trailer for the bikes as well have a kitchen and a double bed inside as well, I am looking for a duel wheel trailer that I can convert, maybe a old car trailer as there will be my wife and a mate doing the trip and having one road bike and the dirt bike I have everything covered or maybe 3 bikes it will be all sola powered and set up for living away from anywhere and mostly remote places.

Ash, do not sleep in an enclosed trailer with your bikes... people have woke up dead doing that...

No the bikes will be moved out when setting up camp as the bed will be lifted above the bikes when traveling and the top of the trailer will be hinged so it can be lifted at the rear as I want it to be low profile when on the road, I have been checking out a lot of bike/camp trailers over the years when we go to our dirt bike park up at Proston for a week at a time, its a 180k acre cattle station/dirt bike park 5 hr drive from our place and out in the sticks, the kitchen might be on slide out frames built into the trailer and up front inside might be a small workshop area for maintenance etc, its all in my head at the moment and finding the right trailer is the first thing to look for, the trailer will be vented as well.
The sides and roof will be made from refridgeration material so its cool in our hot summers with solar panels on top for the camp fridges and lights, I have always done long stay bush camp set ups for all my life and can stay bush for weeks at a time, it will have built in water tanks and a small gen set up at the front of the trailer so it will be fully self contained.
A good friend of mine has built a similar set up on the back of his truck so using his ideas and his help will be great.

Petrol fumes. People sleeping in vans with bikes in them have been known to die in their sleep...

+1
You might be OK if you remove your petrol tank and store it outside, but I would never sleep anywhere near a petrol tank!

Somethings are just common sense. But sometimes commons sense doesn't prevail..

It's all about fume level and ventilation.

I've slept in my trailer with bikes before. It has an operable skylight cap and none of my bikes drool or burp, so no worries at all.

Maybe I’m perverse, but I love trailering things. Not as much as riding, but it is fun. And I get to show off my bikes at the stops. Also I love getting passed by pickups with HD owners ( you can tell by the rear window sticker) and watching them not watching me. Also I’m older and softer and completely unapologetic about it. I built the Norton from the bottom up and if I want to haul it around behind my car to that perfect road 300 miles from home I’m still cooler than everyone else who isn’t on this forum. So there.
