Trailer tie down

Hey guys.
I made a trailer tie down a few years ago that requires no straps.
it bolts to the trailer floor and pins into the rear axle.
It folds down flat when not used.

You can literally pull your bike into or onto the trailer and secure it in place in less then 1 minute and it’s rock solid. No straps to mess with, no stress on the fork seals, no worries about the straps working loose, no straps to damage the paint or finish.

I made it for my dominator with the megaphones but it also works on my commando with the shorty Motad mufflers. I’m sure it’ll also work on the oem long mufflers as well.

Is I the a clam shell device Which you push/ ride into which then pivots forward / backward to support the wheel??

As far as the m/c tie down, I've hauled three motorcycles to Gingerman road course track in Michigan for the last few years. We're neighbors !!! I've got a three rail trailer but I don't like replacing fork seals, motorcycles "walking" on trailers, and hauling bikes on trailers in general. Prepping bikes for the track, hauling equipment; tools etc. makes hauling motorcycles on a trailer with a truck kinda necessary for track days. Any other time I prefer two wheel travel. Your tiedown sounds great and following you on this forum makes me think you're invention is no doubt a well thought-out piece of work. Regardless, if I tear up three bikes going to or from Gingerman, I'll be letting you know (lol). It's amazing how you knew my price range for equipment for hauling bikes on trailers also..

P.S. Real sorry for the guys across the pond and shipping charges. Now you know what it's like for me to order parts for my bikes.

The way I tie down doesn't stress the fork seals - I tie to the top of each wheel to each side of the trailer.
It's secure and allows the suspension to do what it's meant to do.
Just need to ensure the centralising channels have ridges to ensure the tyres grip something and don't rotate.

Sorry for the delay. Here you go. Unfortunately I don’t have pictures of it with the bike installed inside of the trailer before I removed it, but this gives you the idea. Once it’s bolted down, simply push or ride your commando or dominator into your trailer or van, then slide the pins into the mount that go into the rear axle. Then secure with the cotter key. In literally 1 minute you’re done. I’ve hauled my bikes with this many many miles and times without any issues.
Weight is about 20-25 pounds or 9-11 kilograms.

That's an appealing looking concept. The idea is similar to the Pit Bull Trailer Restraint mentioned above, but very different in the way it is mounted to the trailer. And way cheaper to make your own. The Pit Bull complete kit, including mounting plates, for a 961 Norton is $329.95.


They don't make one for the older Commandos, since they don't have hollow axles, but if you were to make your own, you might be able to fab up some sort of fitting off the lower shock mount to take the pins. Just another project to consider adding to the already long list.
