What is the best lube or soap to use when changing a tire? The dish soap that I use leaves my aluminum rims with a lot of rust to deal with. This makes breaking the bead a real problem.Any thoughts?

Damn! You mean I've got to stop using dish soap? Guess I'll have to give the stuff a shot when I shoe the wing.

The gel the mx riders use, not so messy as the tyre paste as it drys clear. A small 250ml tub will last ages as you don't need much. RFX 350mm Pirelli style levers are ace, and make you wonder why you had not used them before.

Tyre lube is useful for cush rubbers too!

I've used Ru-Glyde rubber lubricant for years. It's been around forever, and is used by a lot of tire mounting shops. Available at NAPA, Pep Boys, etc. Or order on-line from Amazon.

Dish soap, washing up liquid contains salt so can possibly cause internally corrosion to the rim & spoke nipples
Tyre soap from you local tyre company is what i always use & there'll always give you a small amount in a plastic beaker FOC if you ask nicely

I just spray a bit of Windex. Hasn't been an issue.

Not sure what OP means by dish soap rusting alu rims? If you're worried about phosphates etc just use a car wash soap as these are supposed to be neutral and anti oxidant.

Sunlight liquid dish soap. My AM26 Avon's like the lemon fresh scent. I'm using Morad 2.5 aluminium rims. No issues.

Lanolin as in the popular mechanics open top, soft dip. regular white hand cleaner works great. Tire slips right on. I happen to have some pure lanolin (mold release) on hand but the hand cleaner works just as good.

Used dish soap for tire changing on the first moto I ever owned 'cuz that's what the mech used at the local gas station for changing tires ( back when gas stations actually had mechanics!). Been using it (Dawn) ever since.
