Things are changing fast, perhaps its time to stock up on 2 stroke oil?

In our province the Government has now entirely done away with ethanol free fuel at filling stations, as many other areas have.
Now I hear murmurs about banning the sale of two stroke oil in order to push consumers to throw away their favourite chain saw, outboard, weed eater or dirt bike. The expectation is that we will replace these things with electric items.
I have a favourite 2 stroke oil that really works well in all 2 cycle engines, even for days of trolling with the 15hp Merc.
I've now picked up enough of it to see me out.
It wouldn't surprise at all if some virtue signaling jurisdiction somewhere bans the sale of 2 stroke oil and then all the others follow suit.
Our Provincial Government is currently considering an outright ban on the sale of any new natural gas furnace, hot water tank, cook top or other gas appliance after 2030. It looks like that ban is getting enough support to go thru.
Nevermind the fact that without the gas we do not have enough energy to stay warm in winter.

Govt controlling what we do or how we live our lives, greens are taking over everything, small minority groups have too much say in Gov, we sell our natural gas world wide cheaper than what we get it for to run our house hold but they don't want to let us use it, everyone use electric cars but 70% of our power comes from coal fired power stations, try travelling across Aus in an electric car, and it's only going to get worst, everything we buy or do comes from oil products you think oil companies are going to go down without a fight, stop eating meat as they poo everywhere and produce methane gases and yet they pump our poo out to sea, I could just keep going, but when is all this BS going to stop, never as it's too late they have taken control.
Our governments have to side with the greens to win, sorry as I know politics is not allowed here, but when is this madness going to stop as the major polluting countries aren't going to change their ways.
I am going for a ride as my beer fridge is empty as they just put alcohol tax up again.

It's not really politics as Governments of all stripes are making these changes right now.
A lot of it seems to just be for optics as we are still selling lots of coal to China.
Whether I run my 2 strokes or throw them all away won't make much difference with China and India going full belt with coal.
I just want to make sure that I don't run out of 2 stroke oil!

Does two stroke oil have a shelf life like ordinary motor oil which I believe is around 5 years or so?

Ongoing stocking.

There is net zero logic in all the climate change arguments, the CO2 fallacy, resetting the earth’s temperature, to what, which temperature is correct?
Go speak with someone educated on the subject. I studied historical geology. I have a hunting buddy who is head of the Geology Dept. at Washington University in Saint Louis specializing in historical geology.
Thunberg would blow head gasket if she had to interact on an intellectual level with honest knowledge regarding the falsehoods and manipulated "causes" of global warming.

The entirety of Climate change is an extension of ‘fear’ based control. Think ozone hole, where is that? Acid rain ditto? Covid alarmism snap, Russia here we go again, in short the climate lunacy is the emperors new clothes.
And here we are on an antique motorcycle site discussing how to hoard 2-cycle engine oil to appease the whacked out Greenie-Woke nut squads of the world.
This too will change...and one day soon methinks.

The photo below is a good example of the what we are dealing with.

Our old coal fired power stations are getting old and just about out of their use by date, replacing with solar farms, wind generators is not enough to keep up with demand, everyone wants the fully AC houses, charging up all the battery cars, scooters and all the mobile devices, then there are the ones who say Nuclear is the way to go, but the cost is so much for a small population we have in such a big wide spread country and the more people run the ACs on the temps we get here in Aus the power supply suffers in peak times, we have plenty of natural recourses, gas and coal what we don't have is the money to build all these new things without going in so much dept and ruled by other countries who are willing to build and pay for these new structures to get built/run and owned by them, our leaders have sold out to greed and now its too late, what a mess and mistake from the past from bad management and now they got to blame everything else except for their mistakes from the past, climate change the world has been going through climate change for millions/billions of years, mankind and greed has changed things and too cover up their mistakes, we just start another war to distract everyone, madness.
Just leave me to live my life and enjoy the time I have left, I just want to live my simple life with the wife, the dogs and my motorcycles, my kids are all grown up, left home to live their own lives, I done my bit so now time to enjoy it.

The trouble is Ash they are not going to leave you alone
I hope your part of Oz doesn't become like it is over here where I live
We have endless 20mph zones
And LTNs "low traffic neighbourhood " where you can't drive through certain areas
If you have a non compliant vehicle you have to pay £12.50 per day to drive in outer London and £15 if you enter central London
They are pushing harder and harder to end private vehicle ownership
There are cameras everywhere, most of my favourite roads are infected by them
I say to everyone to enjoy your bike or car or whatever your passion is because it ain't gonna last
The London to Brighton mini rally and the Bromley pageant of motoring have been cancelled this year because of the expansion of the ultra low emission zones
We have reached the point where they are charging you more to park a diesel car than a petrol car !!

That is the type of overbearing governance that a couple of hundred years ago resulted in a revolution.

The stuff I'm buying doesn't show a best before date but I'm not sure on that. I might call the company that manufactures the oil just to verify.

Glen

I found this answer from Castrol Canada, so I'm thinking I'll be better off with ten year old 2 stroke oil than no oil, if I'm still here in ten years. If the oil is still available in 4 or 5 years I might start using up the old and buying new again.

"There is no shelf life for Castrol oil, however we would suggest that for
maximum protection and performance, the product be used within 5 years of
the date of manufacture. Regardless of the storage conditions, moisture can
get into the product via osmosis through the plastic.

You can determine the date of manufacture by locating the fill code on the
bottom of the back panel. It is composed of a series of letters and
numbers, with the first five characters being the most important.

For example, if you have C04001...., the "C" would represent the plant
location. The five digits '04001' represents the date of production. The
numbers 04 represent the last digits of the year (2004) and the '001'
represents the day of the year, based on 365 calendar days, on which it was
produced (January 1).

For C9001 '9001' represents the date of production. The number 9 represents
the last digit of the year (1999) and '001' represents the day of the year,
based on 365 calendar days, on which it was produced (January 1)."

I had a quart of straight 50wt Valvoline I did not open for over 30 years. Still seemed like oil to me when I finally got around to using it in my Norton. My Norton didn't complain. I probably mixed it with some 15/40 Delo. LOL

I've often wondered about the manufacturer claims that unopened oil has a shelf life of 5 years before it breaks down???
Maybe just to sell more oil !

I think the 5 year best used by date is a cover your ass (CYA) date. Stored poorly water probably gets into the container and law suit happy JQ Public would go after the oil companies if they found water in their oil after 5 years without a best used by date on the container. Deciphering the numbers on oil containers is something I have no time for though.

There was no water in the unopened 30 year old quart of 50wt oil I mentioned. Lucky I guess. Maybe the quart containers were better 30 years ago. Or keeping the container in a dehumidified garage in a box helped.

I opened a quart of Motul fork oil that had been unopened for 30 years and it was garbage. That actually surprised me a little. But, yeah bad things can happen in an unopened container over a ridiculously long period of time. I have a case of automatic transmission fluid that is more than 5 years old I could worry about if I had the time for it. Not going to open it to find out if it has water in it though.

'The system runs on bullshit, and if you have a victim's mindset, you will be a victim'. What man has made, man can make again - thinking something is impossible can make it very difficult. If you are worried about two-stroke oil, get it analysed so you can copy it - or make some that is very similar, or even better.
Many people are defeated by their own mindsets. 'Patience is a virtue'.

Some people are making fuel for cars out of used cooking-oil. There is a motorcyclist I know who works cas a technologist for an oil company - they are not rare.
