Good evening,

Well I promptly stripped the exhaust thread on my recent build. Lesson in torque has been learned. I had a spare head that I am now in the middle of installing. I have the head on, and the pushrods are seated in the rocker arms. I’m setting the valves, and my left inlet valve is tight on the tappet. Picture will show how backed off the tappet is. Left valve is currently I open position. Is this a sign that the push rod is not seated properly on the bottom?

Cheers,
Gatsby

Very difficult for them to not seat at the bottom. Much more likely that the ball is on the edge of the pushrod at the top instead of in the cup - please look again.

Can't put my finger on it but something seems wrong. Do you have the long push rods (intake) inner and short outer (exhaust)? Maybe a picture a little further away would help.

BTW, the spring washers go towards the center.

Removed and reinstalled the head. Pushrods are fully seated, and I have now have clearance under rocker and tappet. Perhaps not seated on the bottom before? I am pretty skilled at doing everything I could possibly do wrong, at least once. Case closed.

Thanks!
Joshua

Hmm …Center of the head is to the left hand side in the above pictures. Is this not right?
Thanks!

I would have said it's more likely for the pushrod not to have located in the tappet.

It is correct. I think perhaps Greg hadn't noticed you'd moved the camera position from the intake side to the (LH) exhaust.

Glad you resolved the pushrod fitment. Regarding the previous head with stripped exhaust thread. Seeing as you are in Canada, you might want to have the ports sleeved at http://precisioncycle.ca/index.html
He did mine for a very reasonable price ($400 total for both sides) and one week turn around.

Sleeving job was excellent and holding fine after 10k miles.

Funny, as this is exactly who I reached out to last week! Once my head is cleaned up, it will be sent. Nice to see a vote of confidence from a previous customer!
