having just a little problem getting this front isolastic into the cradle on 74 850. I have various lubricants and various pressure options including 4 thumbs...so this seems to be a normal NORTON thing

I know it looks impossible but lub it up and push it in - it will go! Make sure you have grease that is OK for rubber. if you have a press or a vice that will open far enough, put a little pressure on it and squeeze the rubber with your fingers - makes it real easy.

NAPA Sil Glyde. I used a couple of big C-clamps with appropriate wooden blocks to compress them while massaging the rubber with my fingers.

Use silicone grease and put the first rubber in at an angle and it normally goes in fairly easy. The rubber of the isos shouldn’t be very hard otherwise it won’t do it’s job

First I buff the interior of the mount. Then use rubber lubricant on both and push it in. Sounds easy doesn't it?
Question; is that the same rubber lubricant you can get from Ann Summers?
(I don't freaking know, I've never been in there!)

You do have a tube of the red grease right ? I didn’t find it pleasant either but they do go in there eventually ….

Last time this came up Jim Comstock recommended a product called P80. This is made to lubricate then go away leaving no residue. I bought a tube from McMaster-Carr back when I replaced the rubbers but can't find it now of course.

Yes tks...got it in..now seems getting it back on the bike is going to same amount of fun..tks again and be safe

I just rotate the Isolastic using a corkscrew action and that includes doing the rear in the bike.

There's a helpful series of videos on YouTube from Mighty Garage on the Mk3 type isolastics (converting a 2a). I like his videos. Shows it, warts and all.

Can’t find it? You know what happened. It lubricated itself, then went away leaving no residue.

You should paint or powder coat everything before assembly. It’ll be easier labor wise and look alot better.

I purchased P80 boy is it slippery!! even the fitting of those horrid rubber buttons at the bottom of side covers is a cinch

I use silicone grease both in the bore and on the rubbers. Tilt the spindle a bit to one side to get it started, then push like hell. They will go in.

Make sure the bore of the mount is clean and smooth to start with - kinda goes without saying, but just in case....

Tyre fitting gel (not the white paste) or rubber grease. When you think have enough lube on it, and the same again.
