Thought it would be an idea to have a thread specific to the MK3 as we owners seem to be a minority. Also be cool to hear about the specific benefits or deficiencies of this model.
Cool photos etc of adaptions or bike would be good too.

I think they should have their own forum or in the "other classic motorcycle" area. They are just a different motorcycle in so many ways.
There is usually confusion (particularly by me) and clarification is commonly needed by L.A.B. when a MK3 is referenced.

Do we have any idea how many MK3 owner there are here? Do have any idea how many MK3's were sold?
Al

If you are interested in MK3 topics the search function is really good. Simply search "Mk3" and add the "Google search" check. You can fine tune what you are looking for i the search area. I will think about if or not I want a separate forum for MK3 owners I own one :)

cheers- Jerry

The 'Mk3' (850) has more in common with an 850 Mk2A than a Plumstead 20M3 Fastback does. It would be a shame if owners only stuck to one forum as there is so much in common.

I wonder if Mk3s were more common in Europe, perhaps because the last batch was sold here ? I've just got back from the NOC rally in France and a good proportion of the Commandos were Mk3s. I don't think that they're rare. Engine numbers ran from 325000 to at least 336539 (the highest that I could find in the surviving records). This would suggest around 11500 produced and I don't suppose that many other 'marks' were produced in greater numbers with essentially no production changes or engine differences, added to which it's reasonable to suppose that later production will have survived in proportionately greater numbers

Mines an MKIII.

Not sure how very different they are. Too much in common with all the others IMO.

All of these replies are being entered on and read from the Norton Commando Motorcycles sub forum.
I would agreeably vote for a separate sub forum when the MKIII is no longer a Norton Commando Motorcycle.
A bit heavy handed of an opinion above perhaps, but the MKIII easily has enough in common with prior models to be included.
Do we not breath through Amals? Do we not smoke when cross wired? Do we not wear Lucas and Lockheed jewelry? Do we not speak through peashooters?
...stalls in traffic, pushes the button and away we go....
Don't make us out to be the red headed step childs. Jealous bastards.
All the best.

Agree. I do not have an MKIII but there is a lot of commonalities. I think some info will be lost if the boards are split up. If we stick the MKIII owners in their own little corner, we will be missing out on some knowledge sharing.

Up front I vote (like anybody cares) against splitting the forum.

As a MKIII owner I'd say the same thing but from the other side of the coin. Would the MKIII owners have the info about the layshaft bearing and how to DIY it?

While the occasional search returns frustrate me, a split sub-forum would likely result in me missing things that apply.

I base this on membership at other forums that (IMO) go to far in dividing up the knowledge base.

The answer is actually no to the peashooter part, but I think they should be in the same forum.

For crying out loud, this may seem like wishful thinking at best, but it is simply an inside joke. I really don't think anyone has to worry about breaking up the party.
Key word, "Commando". No more need be said. Ya pelicans!

Eric

I have a MK3 with peashooters. Not factory, but looks way better.
