As this is the Atlas thread, here goes Fitzpartick Norton(B100) this could have been one hell of a bike.

I would buy this bike to me it's a better prospect modernised that Nortons current fleet.and low vibration.

I'm sure it is a hell of a bike.

There's something ironic about the go-faster scoop and holes on a maladjusted brake.

But how much heavier would it make the Featherbed with that motor and it proberly wouldn't handle as good as a Featherbed with a Norton motor in it and my 850 motor in my Featherbed does not suffer vibrations and can ride it all day with out any problems at all.

That's pretty, and I don't mean the skyline!

Don't you mean Pueblo CO, or, are there two gurus in CO?

Slick

Must be two of them in CO....

Does the Atlas fuel tank have just 2 rubbers at back on frame or 4 of them, 2 front and 2 back and if so are they the same?

There are two 'U' shaped rubbers at rear (16237), about 2 inches forward of the crossbar. These are bonded to top frame tube. At front, there are formed rubbers that fit the mounting bolts (22082 &E6743).

See pg 34: 62 - 68 parts manual classicbike.biz for other fuel tank parts such as washers that are used with the front mounting bolts.

That is zener heatsink...It would be correct for 1967 on...I thought earlier ones had a rectangular heatsink....

Very nearly. Forks still leak despite being "rebuilt". Replaced the Mikuni carb with a new one ( old one was full of gunk) despite being "rebuit", trans is leaking , despite being "rebuilt". Engine runs great, after it was re-timed, despite being timed "by the book". Found a good used seat from a member here on this board, much better ride than the amateur upholstery job done by GP's neighbor. Getting there! Live and learn. Sure is a fun bike to ride. H.

I have my 1967 Atlas almost ready to start but noticed the clutch is extremely hard to pull....I have clutch springs adjusted with end of studs flush with fastener...I wonder if this is normal or whether I am missing something..

That is normal.....a Venhill Teflon cable will reduce the pull. You have your springs adjusted correctly. Welcome to Atlas Wrist Wrestling World.

PS....if you run ATF in the primary instead of oil, you can back off on the springs a tad, as ATF gives more friction than oil.

I bought one of those fancy ($$) Venhill cables and its too short for even low bars. I routed it every way possible to no avail. I wrote them and they mumbled something about I had the wrong transmission for the cable... 30 dollar piece of scrap.... H

They built mine to my dimensions....they have a form you can fill in to spec every detail such as length, lever operator, nipple, and clearance.

Perhaps you can use yours as a front brake cable....it will take special flux to re-solder the nipple.

Did the VenhillUSA site make the custom cable for you?

@Beach

No.... came from UK. I do not think US branch makes custom cables.

Slick

The US branch makes them too...Just email and let them know what you need..I just told them like the one they stock only 5 1/2 inches longer...$39.95....They said if I can get information to document the different bars they will make one to fit the US spec bars and stock them...

No it is not normal, check the clutch lever, the distance between the centre of the pivot pin and the centre of the cable nipple should be 7/8 inch. Otherwise the cable needs oiling or replacing. HTH :)

Also take a good look at your almost-fifty-year-old clutch lever. Mine had a slot worn in it that ate up a lot of the cable action long before anything happened. If yours is like that - replace it! H.

+1

Also look at the hole in the mount where the lever pivots. Mine was worn sloppy and results in lost clutch action as above. If it is not too far gone, you can bore out the hole to 5/16, insert a 5/16 OD x 1/4 ID x 3/16 oil-lite bushing...makes it better than new, and if wears again, just insert a new bushing.

Slick

PS: Even with lever in like new condition, the Atlas clutch is still going to be "heavy".
