Hi All - I am always referencing this site & usually find answers to my questions but I have a few quite specific ones…

I have purchased a Taylor head steady on E-Bay that is in great shape. I am not familiar with the unit but the construction is high quality!!

It doesn't have any spring... Is this recommended or needed (the spring I mean) for an install on a 69 commando?

Does the fact that there is no support to prevent the engine head from shaking (forward & back), put added or unwanted stress on the engine or other parts? I assume a stock head steady would support the head both side to side & forward & back…

I am also installing the Norvil adjustable ISO's does this make a difference?

TKS in advance for all your comments!!! Great site for NORTON BUFFS!!!

Head steady

Hi,
If you go to www.clubmanracing.com cycle parts norton they show the Taylor head steady and list the spring for MKIII applications (although I suppose you could use it on any model). I have installed a tie-rod head steady on my 850 and I have not noticed that that engine moves any more or less, I don't think the stock head steady rubbers actually offer alot of stabilizing effect in regards to forward/backward movement.

The springless steady is for the Mk3 850 cos it's already got one. The spring does help to remove the low frequency judders.

Tks for the responces!! I guess it's OK to install the head steady without the spring on the 69... The link to the clubman site was most useful, they have some very nice items, with info & Pics!
