I am in the process of fitting the RGM Dave Taylor head steady and have found the the machined alloy split bracket that clamps on to the small diameter frame tube has been machined too big for my frame.
I am thinking that shimming it is the best answer, any opinions please?

I had to shim mine.Common problem.I finally cut a shim off of my feeler gauge and it worked well.Apparently there were different frame tube sizes on that tube where the clamp goes

my strip came from an Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale can , brewed in Nova Scotia since 1820 , "those who like it, like it a lot" ......

Just to promote the: 'healthy option', when I shimmed the ends of my Mk3 starter motor to fit the 4 pole body upgrade I used strips from tuna fish tins :-)

An alternative is to put some fine wet and dry on a flat surface and dress the mating surfaces until the clamp holds on the frame.
I first tried a shim but couldn't get it to stay in place, must have been inferior beer.

Now I have a dilemma as to what tin can to use!
My suggestion is to buy many, many different cans of craft beers - IPAs , Stouts , Porters etc and see which can works best . Of course the cans will have to be drained first .... hmm...
I have the Dave Taylor head steady also from RGM - while the clamp fit the small diameter tube fine I found I had to relieve the back corner of the upper clamp piece where it met the large diameter frame backbone in order to allow it to slide rearward enough to square up the dog bone link .

Aren't those the Italian frames that have the smaller diameter tube?

...and, are they identified by the "F" frame number stamp?

I gave up on PBR when they started using Elvis impersonators in their adds. Used to envy the UK for their available beer selection but now we have so many exellent micro brews. Current favorite is Founder's Dirty Bastard. Yeah I know what the implications are. Sorry for derailing the thread.

Not sure if I lose my man card but have some cans of this in the fridge, the weirdest beer I’ve tried yet. Nice in a sour fruity way.
No shims were made in the drinking of this beer.
RGM Dave Taylor head steady fit.
