Looks good! Depending what you are going to do with your Norton , the highrider stuff might be fine. Boppin around town ,they are fun. ( Don't forget you will also need cables, wires and hoses for your Roadster conversion)

Congratulations! I think the HiRider tank with a regular seat looks pretty cool, although it is even smaller volume than a Roadster. That's the setup I have (although with a steel tank). Look at the SS bikes, you can get SS seats from a few places. Andover is out of stock at the moment but I think Burton Bike Bits has them.

Any comments on the 16" rear? I thought it was a HD dealer thing, but was checking OLDBrits parts and saw they have a 16" wheel listed from AndoverNorton.
Will a standard Roadster seat match up well with the 2 Gal. Tank?
Bike a single carb (not Mikuni...maybe Amal) but seller including two originals. When recabling for standard bars, do I need just bar to adjuster or also adjuster to carb?
Thinking of getting UK bars...less rise and sweep than US bar I believe. Any rec's?

I have the UK bars on my Roadster and love them. I've tried a lot of different setups over the last 40+ years and they are my favorite off of the shelf bar. My local Seattle Norton dealer, Pokes, used to braze an extension onto BMW R90S bars so that they had enough length for the larger Lockheed master cylinder. They worked great but the Euro bars are almost the same without having to fabricate them. Now if someone would market a set of footpeg brackets to bring the pegs back a hair. Not rear sets but maybe an inch or so. Throughout your upcoming adventure with your new Norton remember that it's a toy and to have fun with it. Don't take anything serious and since you are writing the checks for the mods, yours is the only opinion that matters. Hope to see you and your new ride at the INOA rally in Washington State

I have had 2 different used Roadster seats on mine and they fit ok. The SS seat from what I can tell is shorter at the back end and narrows down a bit in the front, though I have not seen one in person nor talked to anyone who has one. I have had UK bars and like them.

UK bars as well , tried NA bars , and BSA clubman ? .... anyways once Corbin seat mounted I found the UK bars to be best for me ... gent I ride with has single Amal 32 mounted and his bike runs strong with the good EI .... enjoy ! .... always had a soft spot for those high riders .... maybe hang onto those parts for a while , they paid for .....

i think the hi-rider was "cool", but with the 19" rear wheel no appreciation for the harley wannabe 16". the local dealer in Edmonton had a steady supply of 16" rear wheels and alot of the hiriders went out the door that way, ( had to be lookin like a hogg)
they are unique (redheaded stepsister) and may be more collectible than a interstate/roadster.

You really do need a 19" rim on the back of you want to ride the bike to its full potential

Please ping hobot@madiscounty.net to pay to ship off that HD Hog infected 16" chopperish disgusting POShit poser wheel. I want if for all the reasons no one else does, so win win. Only want the rim so could just clip spokes for ease of trashing as who'd here'd pay anything for whole kit or need that length & aged spoke set. Best wishes on dilemma of sticking with Norton numbered parts to use or old school modify vs just jumping fence for greener grass upgrades bullet proof upgrades. Kind of a wits or wallet choice.

Being kinda new to this site, I've yet to master the ways of Hobot-Speak....are you sayin' you want to buy the 16" rim or are you having a laugh suggesting I pay you to take it off my hands ;-) I can meet you half way and let you have it for cost of shipping (it will be in Vancouver BC mid January).

I've actually been offered a 19" rim only from WornTorn...same chap that pointed me at this bike ad a while ago. So had been planning to cut away the hub and lace up fresh spokeage...something I've never done so more YouTube learning academy for me...

hobot meant - will pay to ship the scrap rim here but nothing for the scrap rim itself.

It's called Dixie speak. You have to read it real fast, and I mean fast then it makes sense. Hi Steve.

How wide is that back rim? After all the conversations here about not getting a wide rim and tire to fit past the chain and swingarm, maybe we need to take some lessons.

Here's a pretty good overview of building wheels, but no Commando-specific stuff:
http://www.nocnsw.org.au/technical/spoked-wheel-building
I believe the rear rim has a slight (1/8? 3/16"?) offset to the right of hub center on this wheel.

Buchanan's has excellent quality kits. I used the stainless spoke/nickel-plated steel nipple version, although that's not original or "correct".
You have to decide if you need nipples .250 or .281 dia, and tell them you want an extra tiny bottle of their special lube for assembly.
http://www.buchananspokes.com/products/spoke_kits_norton.asp

I use the Euro bars. Just the right amount of forward lean so the road shock rolls up the back, rather than pounding the old vertebrae straight up.
Look good, too!

If you mount twin carbs, the stock arrangement (length varies with handlebar style) has a splitter living under the set, one cable off the throttle becoming two.
Some folks think this is foolish or crude, and run 2 cables off a suitable throttle. I really like the stock "quick-action" throttle, this having a curious friction screw which allows warming up the bike no-hands, while putting on my gear.

heres a seat for ya, ( looks nice but I think its for a earlier 750 version)

I hope your ES bike sells soon...it would have been great for me if id had a proper garage and work bench to carry out the restore.

I ran my Muttster for a long time with the hirider tank, roadster seat, uk bars and cables+brake hose. Nice setup for around town, but due to the smaller tank not great for road trips. But if you do the tank last, is easier on the wallet at first.

Thanks , I like the bike and will keep it for a while if it don't sell , money in my bank, I guess. Good luck on the Roadster conversion, you know you need a good setup to work on your Norton regardless if you are living with it or restoring it.o_O
