Hi all,

I got this earlier this year, and although it looks OK it's pretty tired and I'm going right through it, slowly.

T160 tank question

I'm in the process of repainting the tank in burgundy red, but I'm a bit baffled (not unusual...)
It was originally a Cardinal and was re-sprayed later in life, so can't be relied on as a decent reference.
I've finally nailed down the right candy apple colour, but factory photos show some bikes - not all - with a white stripe down the middle of the tank.
Any ideas which bikes were done this way (early or late)? Also, how wide was the stripe?

It's also noticeable that the gap for the tank badges between the white flashes is out of kilter so the 'T' on the badge actually crosses into the flash.
I don't think I'll be copying that, even if it is 'correct' - if you see what I mean:

My understanding FWIW, is that the centre white stripe was a sticker, not painted, and that it was only applied to UK tanks, but not all of them.

Hi Andy,

No centre stripe on mine but it has been repainted by the PO. Much more pleasing to the eye.

Plus there's a view of a trident that Nigel should be well familiar of seeing, parked up waiting for the blue bomber to catch up ......

So, that's what the rear view of a Trident looks like...

Yes, it was a sticker, actually, two, one for each tank colour as the white/yellow tank had a yellow stripe.
Two are listed in the T160 parts book, one for the 2 1/2* gallon tank and one for the 4 1/2* gallon tank, however, this appears to have been yet another parts book error as the sticker wasn't used on the smaller tanks and it wasn't applied to all large tanks so probably one is the white, the other is the yellow.

*(One or both tank capacities quoted in T160 publications are often incorrect, as the tanks are approximately 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 Imperial gallons.)

Yes, if it looks right (with the flashes parallel to the badge) then it is wrong. :)

Thanks for the info - I suspect mine won't have the centre stripe either, and the gap around the badges on your resprayed tank looks way better than the factory effort :)

Once mine is done and on the road I'll happily take on any Commando in a fair fight.

That is a standard one with no modifications.

Or a Combat.

Or a Production Racer

:D

Otherwise I'll have to resort to the Ducati...
