Thanks Ashley. You wrote: "Well I have had mine on my Norton for over 5 years now and all is still tight and stays put when folded away, I have well over 25k on this kick lever."

What holds the lever folded in place? Does it have a ball and spring detent, or does it rely on friction from a spring in compression on the pivot?

Thanks,

Stephen Hill

My new one has those dished spring washers in place.

Original T160s had a spring plate screwed to the knuckle. If the spring washers aren't up to the job, I don't see why a spring plate couldn't be added.

Just noticed that RGM makes a kickstart of their own design, as well as the T160. Anyone tried that one, any comments?

Just remember an extended lever will come back and bite you even harder if your commando has a problem with kick-backs.

As far as I know they are both the same.

Never had that problem, if your bike has problems with kickback then you should fix that problem so it don't, I think the orginal kick lever would do more damage to your leg than the extended lever if there was a kickback.

As far as I know they are both the same.

The RGM own design T160 style kickstart 050179 is for Commando: http://www.rgmnorton.co.uk/buy/kickstar ... se_728.htm
FOLDS NEATLY AWAY, HANDY FOR REARSETS ETC.. EXTRA LENGTH FOR EASIER STARTING.
WILL NOT FIT A MK3 COMMANDO WITH STANDARD FOOTRESTS.

FITS ALL NORTON KICKSTART SHAFTS, COMMANDO, AMC, LAYDOWN, UPRIGHT ETC.

The standard T160 574941 kickstart sold by RGM doesn't fit the Norton splined kickstart shaft: http://www.rgmnorton.co.uk/buy/kickstar ... sa_729.htm

What is the benefit to this part?

Longer for more leverage and appears to tuck in a bit neater than the banana type kickers.

It tucks in A LOT neater than the standard one - which tends to be in the way of my leg, plus it clears the exhaust by a country mile when in use.
I've had clearance issues with early type standard kickstart fouling the silencer.

The rearset issue may not be a problem if you're using a reversed standard gear lever, but it gets very much in the way of a linkage type

Here's my PR setup - I believe the correct PR kickstart is longer than standard (mine isn't)? I wonder what the JPN Replica uses?

Here's the issue with the T160 kickstart with Dunstall rearsets offered up (now renovated and waiting to go on my Fastback)

The clearance gained - no fouling issue:

Thank you for posting pictures. I had wondered how close the kick start lever tucked in.
