I have two T140s sitting in my garage...1978 & 1975. they have identical center stands and appear to bolt up to the same spot on the frame. On the 75 it raises the rear wheel about one finger off the pavement. On the 78 I can put all 4 fingers + under the rear wheel. I realize the front wheel is the one elevated etc.... So what is the difference? Nothing is obvious.
Could I cut a section out of the stand and weld in a supporting piece? I think it is cast steel. Weld mild steel to it?

How long are they (distance between the pivot centre and foot)?

My '78 T140 it's about one finger.

Are the shock lengths the same on both models? Standard shocks should be 12.4" centres.

Shorter shocks?

Smaller wheels?

Narrower / lower profile tyres?

All other things equal, wear ( or it’s ansence) at the point where the stand bites on the frame may explain the difference

It's the '78 model with "4 fingers+" gap under the wheel that's not as should be if the stands are the same length, so unlikely it's due to stand wear.

The 78 has 11 5/8" shocks. Too short. The 75 is 12 1/4". Hard to imagine that distance would translate into such a huge difference at the rear wheel. I have a pair of junk 12 7/8 shocks I can try and see what happens.

Do they both have the same diameter, and width, rims?

Do they both have the same type, and size, tyres?

A "1975" (K 'year' date code) T140 would be extremely rare in the USA.
Due to the Meriden sit-in, the relatively few 1975 T140s built between March April and June 1975 were 1974 specification with right-foot shift and manufactured too late to have been sold on the US market.
