I've seem a hand full of 16" tires on Cdo's, choppers to cafes and even TC's long range 850 IS. What size 16" tire can be fit it there? Is there a sports care tire that would fit a cycle rim this size. Any other issues that come to mind pipe up.
No I'm not building Peel as a chopper for off road and twisties, No Sir she be a low rider!

I've long wanted to join the 'dark side' just don't know how on a Commando is all.

Hehe, can't tease me on Peel, Mud Boggers ain't got traction enough for Peel's envelope, sand paddle tire for the dunes, tire chained flat track for the hill climbs and ice spiked for winter games. A 2nd drive wheel and snow mobile tread are in the works after a 16" wheel try out. TC's advised me prior so guess will have to pester him again. Best thing for THE Gravel is softest compound slick aired down kinda flexy.

Hey Steve, I just luv my 16" chopper tire :D It's 5.00 X 16", and just barely fits, can't use a chainguard unless I modify it though. So, until I modify one, I just run without it !

I use the 16-inch and 18-inch 130-series wheels and tires to change gear ratios--the 19-inch TT100 is an emergency wheel that doesn't involve deflating and reflating the tire.

The big tires outlast the skinny 19-inch tires by a factor of three to six times longer--any high-mileage rider should consider an 18-inch rear wheel with a 120- or 130-series tire

nortriubuell, thanks for the delicous meaty views. Tim I know about the extra mileage on bigger meats, even though the patch size remains very similar as skinny tires. Didn't know how much more this 5 incher was worth but apparently well worth it. The drive ratio change is something I'd not though about much, but that may be another benefit for times I'd like to play drag racer. Peel has 130 fitted now during build up but its an expensive tire and Peel will have torque to spare. I didn't give 16" much thought but a style statement until I saw TC living
on his. Function drives his decisions. What size rim, so I can look for a sports car tire bargain. If not then a cycle tire like most everyone else on 16" wheel.

It'll be awhile for me to attempt as Peel ain't Norton so need a new hub and spokes
and rim. May want to go 16" for the sand paddle tires. Ride out on 18" 120 or 130 and switch to floation tire to play then switch for ride back.

Fitting, then trying to corner a solo motorcycle on a basically car tyre is a sure way to end up kissing the tarmac. The construction of a bike tyre is different to a tyre for a tin box and is not to be recommended unless you add a third wheel in the form of a sidecar. It seems that only you Hobot likes to look at the dark side of the moon whilst riding your solo motorcycle. :D
Each to their own :!:

If you want the best mileage from a rear motorcycle tyre, try a Conti TK17; in normal usage you should get 15,000 miles out of them.

Well sir, I don't really know what i want yet on rear of Ms Peel. Past Peel had pavement down to point its boring not to over do every turn to make it a harsh accelerating decrease'r radius. So mainly want more traction security off road and more wear and more double taking looks prior to and after a run - on or off road. Leaning on Peel is only required for 3 of her 5 phases of handling corner loads. The fastest so far is mostly upright burn out like dragster launch or hill climber wheelie style. I double dog dare ya to travel THE Gravel in any spirit at all with almost any leaning at all, >>>ZIP-SPLAT!

I've not found a car tire this 5" wide size yet, if they exist, but that still leaves almost car like chopper road tires and knobbies and sand paddle tires for cycles. Peel will eventually fit 3 tires w/o the side car's 4th, then a fifth tire for the second trailer.
Does a snowmobile tread count as one or two tires?

As it appears to be your want, I suggest you try the classic car tyres website to find what you are looking for. Best of luck.

Hm, ok, maybe Cooker Tire has skinny car tire for the mileage but still leaves dang meaty cycle tires we see a number of examples on Cdo's. I still got 3 dead cycles right now, don't have a 16" rim or spokes but do have another non-Norton hub on hand.

Well awaiting a ping back from TC, but Marino at M.A.P Cycle in Fla. has steel 3.5" chrome rim $70 and spokes $100. Talked to a few famous vendors today but they say they only take em off and ebay em away cheap. Any one got one to be rid of?

From my experience selling a 16" on ebay, act fast. Mine went within 24 hours of posting and at my asking price.

Interesting the market exists and I'm taken aback at the appeal that it may solve a fewissues particular to Peel. I need a 40 spoke rim that fits a Suzuki Water Buffalo hub. I bet Buchannan's may have some feedback on a rim. Steel chrome is all i've found so far. Not a front burner issue that's for sure, but you know how ideas flash to mind then the hunt is on to get it in your sights, even if ya don't always pull the trigger just then.

The old Akront or Borrani SIDECAR raceing rims were 16 in Alloy . a bit narrow , but should be some around ,
via the side chair boys intrests ., or M-X types ? .

Just some flavor I found but imagine a blown big block twin paddle wheeling.
