With a quality OTC small bearing seperator/puller you can pull an undamaged inner race off the crank and reinstall repeatedly.
No heat required, which I consider as butchery.

At this point protecting the end of the cranks becomes the more important issue. So I made a crank protector slug/tool for each end since they are different.
If you want to play mechanic you have to pay for the tools.
The only superblend I saw failed was at 150,000 miles in a MKIII.

The correct puller is a joy to use. There is so much pleasure to be gained from doing a job properly (and so much worry with a Norton if you put it back together knowing you've bodged it). As has been mentioned however, why remove the inner race if the bearings are OK ? They're easy to inspect and Superblends really don't need replacing as a matter of course.

79100 you are right about using the correct tool. My father always says use the right tool for the job. Hence over the years between us we have amassed a very large set of tools. I only cut a bearing off as a last resort but sometimes it is the only way. As my crank needed its first regrind I admit I side stepped the bearing removal and worries over correct torque of reassembled crank by taking it to a noted expert (Mick Hemmings) while I know many don't live in UK or other places like the US where such experts can be found it is always worth checking possibility of posting even a heavy item to them if you feel unsure about doing the job correctly yourself or locally and if like the crank you would have to buy an expensive tool that is only to be used once (hopefully ) it may offset the cost of postage .
