Sump plug debris (2013)

Wonder if someone used some type of hardening sealer between the barrel and crankcase instead of a gasket. That would explain the approximate 3” diameter. Doesn’t explain why it’s in the bottom of the crankcase unless it was taken apart at one time and the mess was never cleaned up on assembly.

Can you check that ASV is still functioning (undo downstream oil line to see if you have draining from tank or just open the sump drain after sitting some weeks?) to rule it out as missing bits?

Does a pressure check assure an oil line isn't partially blocked? Wouldn't you need to to measure actual volume flow to determine if there was a restriction somewhere?

Thanks, you guys.
Are there plastic bearing cages in the crankcase?

There shouldn’t be, but I couldn’t think what else it could be.

What wd I see with an endoscope?

Nothing untoward I hope, but they are so cheap it would be worth popping it up through the sump plug hole and having a look.

Cheers,

cliffa.

Is there any external evidence someone made a repair to the cases?

I am thinking some sort of patch was done using epoxy, and it has come loose from the interior of the cases.

Such a patch would be visible by a borescope inserted thru the sump plug hole.

If no oil weep or leaks, and no, or very little more, of the stuff appearing on the sump screen, it is likely nothing to be overly concerned about.

Deets55: Barrel has a std paper gasket.

Tornado: I will pull the AwS valve and check it. And yes, a blocked passage wd presumably still show good pressure, but I don't know what the flow is supposed to be, ,and checking it (flow rate) sounds difficult and risky, too.

Cliif: I did look at endoscopes, but too many choices! I'll keep looking. Any recommendations?

Slick: No evidence of repair, and Steve Payne wd surely have spotted anything like this when we had it apart.
And thanks for the reassurance...

Thanks again to all you folks for your attention, ya.
