Depressingly just became aware that Stuart Garner is to present more propaganda at the upcoming NOC AGM. Why? After reading all the negative comments regarding his companies attitude toward hopeful buyers, bringing the Norton name into disrepute (Norton 'pram anyone?) and the farcical 'works Norton' at last years TT I wonder why this club wishes to associate itself with a such a person who appears to be nothing short of a charlatan. Then again the NOC EC seem happy to court the bearded arse Les Emery :? .

The new Norton company (for the most part) owns the rights to the Norton name, but as far as I am aware has nothing to do with the Norton 'pram as this was being produced before Stuart Garner bought the name. I have no personal experience of the company, apart from hearing stuff second-hand, but it is obvious that the company has made mistakes and its reputation has suffered because of it. People are entitled to their opinion of the firm and of Stuart Garner himself, but at the end of the day should the NOC just ignore him and his company or invite him to the AGM where members can listen and then ask questions directly to him? Personally, I prefer the latter.

Well, you should remember that said arse started his company on the back of being NOC spares secretary!

But that was along time ago, I have not seen him in many many years (35!), but by reputation, he hasn't changed at all!

Oh good all the more reason to ride my 961 to the AGM to thank him again for building me such a nice motorcycle. :D

I've got to say I agree with Alan on this one, even though it appears that the new Norton venture may well end in tears. I for one hope that they do eventually make Norton a profitable company one day, and I personally like to see the "Norton" name on new motorcycles again (I'm excluding all those Chineese mopeds etc) but only time will tell if it will be for the good of the marque.

Jose - With two posts you are really treading on thin ice here with your provocative statements. What's your point?

Hi

The Manx engine is really nice :D

Did read a bit about the rotary but that has gone quiet. New design lots more power. This I am looking forward to hearing when we race at the Donnington festival this season.

The 916 will continue to be build & in bigger numbers. Whether it can support the bussiness itself?

Chris

Not so. The pram company- now apparently in liquidation- was another business interest of Stuart Garner, see: http://company-director-check.co.uk/director/916093898. The great success story of the Norton pram came well after Garner's purchase of the trademarks.

More proof that the British and Americans are two peoples separated by a common language!

When I was a young man, I used to read two great British car magazines - Car and MotorSport. It took years of regular reading to decipher what was meant by words such as 'binnacle', 'wing', 'bonnet', 'boot', 'near-side', 'off-side', 'winker', etc.

Of course, we Aussies have some interesting terminology - another Aussie and I had a Canadian workmate confused when we decided to transport something in a "ute". :?

Just a few words to say I think the personal comments in the first post are out of character for this forum and are not needed.

Norton is just a business, let the business men get on with it, and the Norton name will live on and evolve as it always has done.
