Stuart Garner Sentenced

Poor bugger, he might be in jail for a month or get a nasty good behaviour bond. When you road-race a motorcycle you take a risk, but most road racers are not brave enough to swindle millions out of suckers. It must take a very strange mentality.
It did not matter what Garner did money-wise, it was never going to kill him. But I like to sleep at night. Do you think he ever had any anxiety ?
Severe punishment for money offences is for poor people, but money offences make you rich - so do it quick.

I have never believed there would be consequences for Stuart Garner - that is not what neoliberalism is about. I think he must be saner than most of us. During my lifetime I have copped severe anxiety. If you are going to cop that, you might as well make it worthwhile. I don't have 6 Aston Martins and live in Donnington Hall. You have to give him a A for effort. The 961 Norton Commando actually exists. Often fortunes are made from producing absolutely nothing. Everybody should read 'The Constitution Of Liberty' by Friedrich Hayek. It is the neoliberal bible. ' The free market takes care of everything' !
You only live once.

Time to throw all the ripped off pensioners and Norton depositors in jail for aiding and abetting.

After all, SOMEBODY needs to pay!

...Maybe hang Kenny Dreer for selling out?

Some folks love the idea of a resurrection of a British bike, no matter how bad the story is.
-The Boss is a criminal
- He destroyed lives
-He used knock off parts with no regard to the safety of the rider, never mind reliability problems
( Broken front end casting, starter ring gear falls off at speed)
- They were mostly assembled by unqualified British workers.
- The bikes are possibly the worst new motorcycle built in the last 75 years or so.
This is really too bad as it reinforces the poor regard that many North Americans and Europeans have for British made machinery.

Yet some think it's all just great.

I reckon he should have built them in Thailand? ;) o_O :D :)

With the same crook running things, the outcome would have been much the same. The only difference would be Thai workers shouldering the blame.

I think the design of the 961 might be excellent. Anyone who invested money with Stuart Garner was probably capable of making a risk assessment. Do you think the first batch of Brough Superiors which were produced were all flawless ? There is always a process of continual improvement.

They were made by unqualified British workers ? Do the still have any qualified workers in the UK? In Australia since about 1990, we have bought our hardware from China. We have a skills gap of more than 20 years. If we want to make anything, we will have to make do with what we have. I believe the Chinese have the rights to the design of the 91,. If they make them, they will be good, but the metallurgy will probably be sus.

Yes, UK has qualified workers.
The Triumphs built at Hinckley have been excellent machines.
I chatted with the owner of an early Hinckley built Daytona 955i that has 250,000 + kms, still going strong. Those bikes were built to last.

Also Triumph is supplying all engines to GP moto2. The power output is higher than the Hondas they replaced. There were doubts that Triumph could equal the reliability of Honda, however Triumph has surpassed Honda reliability at Moto2
. I believe these Triumph 765 triple engines are all UK built as well.

If you look at the other motor manufacturers you will see many larger outfits are just as guilty of corner cutting and
shady business practises. The free market is suppose to shake out his likes and actually it has. After all Triumph is doing rather
well and few thought they had a prayer up against the Oriental powerhouses. A good product fully supported. I think Mr Garner
missed out on those two points.

It's well beyond the pale.

Criminal of the COURTS, really.

I wouldn't doubt serious threats / actions against those who let him off the hook. You're talking about people's ENTIRE LIVES destroyed...

Are you talking about justice or reality ? I learned two important lessons in my life - 'the system runs on bullshit' and 'if you have a victim's mindset, you will be a victim '. The problem is that what Stuart Garner did carries no penalty because it is the basis of business right around the globe. The space between criminality and proper business practice is extremely small. In Australia I can only remember one business person who was ever held to account - Alan Bond. He is a folk hero because when he was jailed he copped it sweet and did his time. There is one other who was a public figure and the top of a criminal hierarchy , who was named in a royal commission but never prosecuted. Those guys are usually donors to major political parties.
You have to give Stuart Garner 'A for effort'. What he did was very well done. People suffered, but 'there is one born every day'. I do not think Stuart bought any politicians.

I'm guessing you haven't lost your pension to a fraudster then Al?

Till it comes out of your own pocket then AL no problems at all, I have owned 2 Thailand built Thruxtons and so far no problems at all, Thai people are hard workers, never any problems from the factories or their work force and so far the workmanship is up there.

Have you followed the struggles of the people who have been trying to use these bikes??
Here is a small sample of the issues they have encountered.

-Starter Ring gears falling off, could be fatal as it can lock the rear wheel at speed.
- Oil puking into the air cleaner
- cush drive rubbers deteriorating in a few thousand kms
- ignition parts on a new motorcycle were imitation Bosch, likely made in China for pennies. They have to be tossed and replaced with proper items.
-Many electrical or electronic problems, not easily traced or remedied.
- lots of strange engine noises when they do run.
- high level of vibration, probably due to imbalanced balancer shaft and crankshaft.
- crankshaft centre bearing housing installed with incorrect length screws, not secured.
- broken front fork triple tree casting- hard to tell what causes this.
And plenty more.
