Strandbeest Are Evolving

Good find Tornado.

This guy is a genius - never seen anything remotely like it. Not sure what we call this - perpetual performance art maybe. Or just plain fascinating.

The movements achieved seem to closely mimic that found insects and annilids. Not sure if that was just by fancey or more a consequence of how to most efficiently generate the movements from nothing more than the wind.

Only thing i've seen made that is similar, a kind of walking machine driven electrically that was something like 10 or 20 feet wide with many moving legs and a seat for the human in middle. Seen it at parades etc.

Perpetual ?

Its wind powered.
Strandbeest Are Evolving

Unless you thought I said per-petrol FE😁!

A throw away comment FE on a light hearted, positive subject about what we might call it only - wasn’t looking for a 100% technically and grammatically accurate designation. The dictionary definition was simply to show how I thought of its seemingly repeated, endless motion.

If we’re looking to do that on every subject this forum really would be in trouble😄! You may be trying to:

Thought that music was familiar ...its from the wind bludger powered vessel music used for the Onedin Line 😉

What happens if you get caught in the doldrums without a motor ??
Back in the day, without a motorized alternative, the danger of getting trapped in the doldrums could spell disaster. Sailors could be stuck for weeks while waiting for a wind to move them on. If there happened to be a shortage of food or water, the results were deadly.

That’s not inconsequential or trivial, you used a fundamentally incorrect description of what was happening, period.

For a moment it all made sense to me Stephen, the fact that you thought wind energy was perpetual, it all clicked into place… that’s why you're blindly acceptant of all the green gerrymandering !!

You missed this bit: "...as to seem endless"

"Perpetual" (care) places don't keep a body alive forever, either...

Not sure those comments really warrant a response FE, but hey!

A lighthearted musing about a potential name for the type of performance art Standbeest may be, on a pub thread, you state is now somehow ‘significant and consequential’ - to who exactly! That’s not a question.

Same same, that somehow invalidates my entire (majority held) opinion on environmental matters! Also not a question.

If the wind doth not blow the wind turbine doth not rotate = no ‘electrickery‘. Really!!? Who’d ave thunk!!!

PS. Think a descriptor for the motion of the contraption rather than the means of propulsion.

Calm down dear… it was only “a throw away comment” …

Just to perpetuate the discussion.....

Is it not said that a thing of beauty is: 'A joy.... for ever!' ??

(Once you get it out of the eye of the beholder, of course. Shouldn't be too hard mind, it's allegedly only skin deep :) )

It seems that you can buy a Perpetual Motion Machine on Amazon. Is there anything that you can’t buy online these days.
