Hi concours , if you have had trouble at work, especially if it's been repeated over and over ,
It could be Covert Workplace Bullying , or if you see this shit happening (it's usually the Gossip at the smoko table spreading gossip to elevate their status),they do it to get that schadenfreude feeling and to defame or demean someone , So if you listen in to the goss you've been successfully inducted as a devotee ,especially if you pass on the goss , you can also end up a bystander 🤔 , there are virtually no upstanders , there are pretty strict rules in most countries , most people have no awareness of the 4 types of bullying. Just Google the key words .

Similar happen yesterday as a matter of fact! Met a BSA mechanic(?) with tuning problems with his 34 mm Mikuni carbs. Listened how he was working with a name I guess I should have known( or so he thought). Being the kind individual that I am, I pulled out my phone and showed him the set-up on me Norton, offered to send it to him. "No thanks" the info wasn't from the big time name! Anyone else would have accepted it even if they never used it. He's on my shit list! I might see him next fall, I'll blow up a Norton, if I have to, to beat his ass!
 
Our son , an auto mechanic had worked in a big dealer service repair shop , he just bout cracked trying to keep customer cars away from his bay doors , he moved laterally to same outfits re-con shop he watches over mechanics getting auction bought cars ready for re-sale , no public access , he loves it 😉
 
Depends on how you look at shit stirrers, shit stirrers trouble makers or shit stirring your mates, it depends on how you take it, as an Aussie we shit stir in a different way, we love to joke around with each other and I love to shit stir my mates as they bite so easy in a funny good way and by the time they worked it out they been had, they soon see the funny side of things and off course it works better if you can keep a straight face when stirring the pot.
As for the shit stirring trouble makers, I have no time for them and if they don't want to listen or carry on they deserve everything to go wrong, I don't take to fools, sometimes I will let them know and other times I just walk away thinking what a f u c k head.

The $hit disturbers are everywhere always in search of their never ending attempt to stand out while demanding "look at me!" with either actions or commentary. Politicians come to mind first, but the runners up are everywhere.
Most all the time the pettiness of their attention grabbing is easy to manipulate/throw back at them.

Us Aussies look at things differently than the rest of the world, we don't take things too seriously and to make fun of things/mates by stirring the pot even when things are bad we still love to see the funny side of things and overseas travelers sometimes can't see the funny side of things in what we get up too, only if they lived here for sometime they learn to understand our ways.
Americans are the hardest to understand our ways lol and the Poms we just love stirring them up and Kiwi's do understand as I have a few good Kiwi mates, but they hate being called mate, hey bro lol, I have a good Kiwi mate, f u c k we put shit on each other, can be so funny when others don't realize lol.
