Has anyone found a flat wrench to adjust the steering head bearing nut on a commando without having to remove the upper yoke

I assume you mean the early bikes with head race cups and ball bearings?

Thinking I’ll make a wrench rather than wait on one from the uk. Anyone know what size wrench fits the top nut

The bicycle world has a series of thin wrenches that might do the job.

Filed down slim adjustable. Fits featherbed bikes so assume it would fit an early Commando. I found this at a garage/boot sale. I've been told it

came from a Model T tool kit. Felt a little guilty modifying it but they did make millions of them.

Found a 14$ head bearing wrench on eBay. Search 1 3/8 pump wrench or try the link. Worked great on my 70

Try McMaster Carr, look at their tappet wrenches.
