my '72 came w/ no centerstand. so i got one off a '74, modified the bushings to fit the '72. the mounting hole on the centerstand crosstube has been weld reinforced. it's over toward the right of the tube. i can't find where to mount the other side of the spring. searched, but most of the posts seemed to indicate it gets mounted on the left side of the cradle. i cant find anything either side. an external oil filter has been mounted and may obscure access. any help greatly apprecciated. thanx, rick

There will be a hole directly above the main stand mounting on the left side of the engine cradle, often elongated from wear.
Not easy to see if you have an oil filter fitted. Requires a bit of crawling about on the floor, unless you have a bike lift.

well now i've been told an 850 centerstand won't fit on a 750. i've got the stand mounted and it'll work given an attachment point. i've got the bike on a lift and tommorrow i'll get under there w/ a light. does anybody know in fact if an 650 c s will fit on a 750. all i've left to do is mount the rear tire, battery, and sort out the coil wiring on the new harness. fill er up w/ avgas and i'm off. thanx. wales vs usu rugby 2 weeks in chicago. i'll be there cheering on the yanks. thanks, rick

If your Commando is definately a 1972, and isn't a 1969/1970 ( which I believe had a frame mounted centre stand), an 850 centre stand should fit as far as I am aware.

The 850 (064031) stand should fit, and a stand upgrade kit (064874) was made availabe for the earlier '71-on models, which included the stand, spring, four washers, two 850 stand spacers (064873) and two bolts (062040).
