Speedo fogging

We usually never saw fogging before because the incandescent bulbs would burn it off. But now we got the fancy LED stuff and no such luck.

I've read about some instrument panels that are really bad. People would rig up all kinds of contraptions to get the humidity out.

A couple options, get all of the moisture out and then make sure the instrument is sealed or move to a drier climate.

Does that go with bonnets and accumulators.... Oh wait, that was once automotive..... Next door to the Loo then?
We don't buy newspapers to read either BTW.... these are ripped up and placed in the bog to wipe your Ass!!!

I too have Smiths electronic gauges. I'd had them on for a couple of years without ever running them in the rain. The first time I did, they were very waterlogged within a few minutes. It was a cascade. I took the bike back to the man who fitted it expecting to get a warranty repair or replacement and was told that they wouldn't accept it. Nice. Standing by your product does not seem to be the thing these days. The gauges had been on for two years, but to have the speedo fail in this manner leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I had to buy a new one and now the old, rusted internally original is a paperweight somewhere in my stuff. Very inpressive.

Nothing like poking around to learn new words in our common language. At least if I find myself there one day I'll not be at a complete loss when asking a question.
Humidity is so bad here in the early mornings I have to place my goggles in the faring until after 10 or run into something, but 40-50 year old instruments don't fog for unknown reasons.
I fear using desiccant packets would have you pulling them out for recharge multiple time per day to remain effective. Perhaps a good seal and a small nitrogen purge would work well. We used N2 to purge and dry systems to remove moisture prior to returning to service. N2 & sillycone to plug holes might cure the woes. Just keep the flow going for an hour or so to remove all air and plug quickly. Worth a try anyway.

I'm not familiar with the electronic versions, but the chrono's are sealed to an extent, as the only openings are the bulb socket and drive input. If the electric ones have wire grommets perhaps that's a way for moisture to get in?

I have too heard that the electronic Smiths are not waterproof. I don't know if that has changed.

If you find yourself in Newcastle, you'll be asking for the netty....

Need more details. When does the fogging occur? If I wash my bike on a hot day, the clocks always fog up until they get a chance to dry out, always have. Are yours fogged all the time, or just under certain conditions?

The speedo works great. It is completely clear when I start out but then fogs up during the ride. I live in an area with plenty of humidity. The electronic tach does not fog. I am going to try some silicone where the wiring cable goes in on the base. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem
I am very pleased with how these instruments work

You may want to put your speedo in a big bag of rice overnight before sealing it up ..... have same issue on Griso the cure for it is a couple very small venting holes drilled into body of instrument , have not got to that job just yet , it is on the list

I seem to remember the original K100 bricks had the same problem mainly due to the display binnacle being totally electronic with no means of internal ventilation... I seem to rememb r the factory fix was a couple of strategically drilled holes
