Any tips for the fogging up on a Smiths electric Speedo?

speculating here - I figure the fogging is caused by petroleum based products used to lubricate the speedo and tach cables. lubricants slowly evaporate, and this is what's causing the fog. the only way I know of is removal of the glass and chrome bezel, and cleaning the glass. problem is, not sure the chrome bezel is salvageable. I've done it, but destroyed the bezels in both cases. fortunately, new glass/bezel kits are readily available. not sure what to use on the cables - maybe a dry lube product. ???

I think yer man sez it's electric..

Hair dyer will be a temporary fix until the next ride, for a product known to be used out in the open the sealing seems to have been an afterthought as its not the first time its come up.

maybe i'm not understanding what's going on here - is this fogging caused by high humidity, water vapor, or some sort of moisture condensation?

Need more details. When does the fogging occur? If I wash my bike on a hot day, the clocks always fog up until they get a chance to dry out, always have. Are yours fogged all the time, or just under certain conditions?

Its an electronic speedo, no steel cable involved and the fogging is water in one of its many forms.

What kind of lamps do they use for illumination? Perhaps reverting to old technology incandescent lamps will generate enough heat to drive off the moisture.

Slick

If like Legendary units the "Tell tale" lamps will be LED. So any heat generated will be marginal. If you can get inside dry thoroughly and place in your airing cupboard overnight or for a couple of days if possible and add a bag or a spoonful of desecant granuals to the inside of the case.

Baggers, in motorcycle context:

Speedo fogging

It is a grocery store courtesy clerk who puts purchases into a bag for you.
Didn't realise it's a Brit thing (must be our small houses... made of BRICK!) It's a cupboard that houses a hot water tank, usually for the heating system as well as hot water in general, but usually built to include shelving for clothes storage so they can be 'aired' after drying.....

Does that go with bonnets and accumulators.... Oh wait, that was once automotive..... Next door to the Loo then?
