Slight kick back

My Commando is in good tune, but has sat a while. Usually it is a one or two kick. This time it started right up, but when I turned the lights on, it immediately died. I started it a couple more times, but it wouldn't keep running. In one of those latter kick overs, it tried to kick back a bit. I am replacing the battery which was well past due. I was just wondering if anyone thought that the low low battery might have been the cause of the slight kick back as it virtually never kicks back.

Short answer: yes

I don't write many short answers... it's a gift,... and a curse...

Assuming you have an electronic ignition like a boyer, that's a known issue. If you have low voltage due to a bad cell or an old sulfated battery, a boyer may throw the spark in the wrong place. Once you get the bike running, you flip on the lights and the voltage drop again confuses your boyer, then maybe you get a weak spark or no spark so your bike dies.... Some electronic ignitions are less prone to voltage drop induced problems than others, but I have always had either boyer ignitions or points, and boyers do have issues when the battery gets weak.

It has a Pazon, but it is likely the same as Boyer in this regard so thanks for the response.

They claim it can go with 8 volts.

Check the battery voltage.
