I absoulutely love the look of your bike...in fact, this is the direction I'm planning to go when my back won't take my Dunstall setup any longer. Gorgeous machine....bravo!!!

2 piece? I'm not familiar with the later bikes chainguard. Now I have to go look up how much that SS guard set you back. I paid $130 for a chromed one from Burtons Bits delivered. I have seen some SS ones, but when I was buying, they were in and out of production from some guy in TX I think and a fella in UK as I remember on ebay.

I only see the plain steel ones, or am I missing something at CNW. Norvil has them too in steel. Here's my original, broken and chain rubbed.

cmessenk,

Thanks for the kudos. It is working out just how I thought it would. Still have the electrical to go.

Dave,

Thanks for the nice comment about the rear hub final build on my bike.

The 1974 850 chain guard I took of my bike is this thing:

*It is for sale and is in good condition. Just a lot of gunk buildup inside from years of chain oil and misc gunk.

The CNW polished SS chain guard is a one piece affair and has a reduced space rear mount to prevent the dreaded stock chain rub. Comes with polished fasteners as well.
In person, it looks so much better than pictures. Call Matt at CNW for price & availability. *I waited a while while it went through the prototype to production stage.
Worth it.

Very cool looking bike! I got a lot of parts from them when I started building mine (doing the wheels right now). You will really like that clutch, very smooth pull. I also upgraded the started and used a Shoria battery. I am going wait to paint the tank/covers for a while, right now I like the patina look! Are the chain guards in stock a CNW? I need one. Here is mine with the old wheels on it.

I don't know. Call Matt at CNW and see. I was lucky enough to be a part of the first run. Looks so much better than chrome on that part, IMHO.

*Very, very nice looking Norton Mr. Matson.

I tried to call Matt yesterday but no answer. I will try tomorrow. I just laced and trued the rear (shouldered excel) and will be doing the front tomorrow, then hang the new pipes and pea shooters, trying to get ready for a Norton ride this sunday! Have fun with your build your bike is stunning, and keep us up top date on it.

When are we going to see some more pics of the build??
Should be soon. Just got most everything done while waiting for the tranny & engine. Tranny arrived yesterday. I'm out of town. Will post pics when I get back in a couple days.

Getting close...

Great, thought you forgot about us! Thanks for the info on the chain guard, I really like it and so does anybody who sees it.

Your welcome. yeah, the chain guard is really nice in polished SS. Enjoy!

Gearbox

Finally got the gearbox installed. Went in real easy with the cradle mod, (Some material removed for easy install.) It went in sooooo easy!

Just need the rest to "nip up" the gearbox mounts, (shifter just in place to just "look-see.") Yes, That is a 1975 kick start assembly with

rubber from merry ol' England. No more "kick, clank, kick clang!"

Now I need to get the engine and wire harness. Soon, I can feel it, very soon!

*Note the hydraulic connection for the clutch, nice work by CNW.

I might be in LasVegas the week of April 29th, can I stop over and check it out. My wife is going for an IBM conference and I was going to tag along for a few days. I'm not allowed in the conference, but i was going to do some running around, stop by the Shelby factory and stuff.

wiring harness & primary covers

The wiring harness is finally going in. Drilled only four places in the frame. two holes for the rear brake/taillight/signals & the right down tube for the Tri-Spark to the electronic coil.

Also got the inner/outer primary covers back from CNW with the nice breather/air hole mods for the dry belt clutch system.

And the oil filter and a few lines hooked up too.

Now I just hafta hook it all up!

Skyguyz, your bike is really comming along beautifully, I was just thinking that drilling holes in the frame might not be the best idea. ------ "Drilled only four places in the frame. two holes for the rear brake/taillight/signals & the right down tube for the Tri-Spark to the electronic coil." ---I don't really have the engineering data to back it up, just thinking about possible stress and corossion issues out loud. It's a wonderful build though, top notch all the way. Cj

No worries. The structure is not compromised. The holes are in non stress areas. I found some rubber grommets and some silicone to finish the job so corrosion won't be an issue. Thanks for your comments and kind words.

Sorry, but I strongly doubt that - especially on the relatively flimsy Commando frame. If I interpret the pics correctly e.g. the drilling close to the ign coil IMHO compromises the downtube strength quite significantly, the other ones as well especially as they hit areas already prestressed by welding.
