You better put the horn on pretty quick.

Uh, What do you mean please?

If you dont put the horn in soon , other parts will block the area the horn must go.

Told to me personally by an old graybeard at a clubman show,

"first part to assemble on a Commando rebuild, is the horn"

Your relayed direct to battery powerfull horn blaster unit should be pointed towards the potential emergency situation. As stock crapola unit it is pointed at the ground at the rearward section of the bike. Im sure you will think about this with such a beautifull build. :P

Ok, I get it. Not sure if I'm going to mount the horn where it goes traditionally. I was actually considering some type of mount forward. I dunno, but I will make sure to leave room regardless. Thanks for the tip.

I've always liked the look of putting the horn in the crook right behind the z-plate. You're going to have to switch the exhaust mounting plates
This is definitely going to be one of the best mouth-water'ers in a long time. Not the least because you take good shots.

Well spotted on the exnaust mount plates, mufflers would end up near verticla if they would fit!!!
Fabulous build.
Regards Mike

Not much done after the holidays. Just general shop cleanup and I did fix the exhaust brackets and mounted the voltage regulator. The D.T. head steady has some tooling mark I need to clean up. Hummm.

Voltage Reg.

Stainless steel chain guard

I was fortunate enough to obtain one of the first Stainless steel chain guards from CNW. It is very much up to the quality you would expect from Matt & Co. Very nice part.

OH, Man, now you're hurting me. Here's my original.

But I got a replacement from Burton's Bits for a decent price in chrome.

The chain guard is unique because it has a shallower mounting bolt bracket on the rear side. This design allows the chain guard to locate in the middle of the drive sprocket for a better fit.

I found a tappet spanner that fit in there just fine after I ground one down.

It looks like you need a VERY thin spanner to get in there.

Yes, I had to "fashion" one just for this one bolt head.

Or...insert a screwdriver blade (or Allen key/wrench etc.?) of a suitable size between the bolt head and the clip to stop the bolt turning while you do up the nut?

I thought of that but I was concerned it might distort the bracket when torque applied. *I used some flat bar cut to size and blue tape. took 5 min to make, worked fine.

I haven't started the rebuild on my Commado yet.....but out of curiosity, what size is the hex on the nut/bolt head that we're talking about? I could fabricate a wrench from some flat stock, while waiting for Spring, as my Commando is in winter storge taking a long nap and is difficult to get to.

Thanks,
Ray
