Where is the flasher unit supposed to be on a 73. I have both removed and don't see what connection is used?

Hi britbike
On the 73 it should be a silver can with a L shaped tab on the top of the can and would be bolted to the rectifier under the seat where the main frame spine tube ends at the cross brace. The rectifier usually faces the battery compartment and the flasher unit is through this bolt and lives in-between the fender and the backside of the cross brace of the frame. The wires should be Light Green/Brown and White with 2 whites going in one female connector. Centre pole is not used I think.

Mine is on the cross brace where the spine ends, between the cross brace and the rear fender (on the back side of the cross brace. My rectifier is mounted in a separate hole from the flasher. The leftmost hole has the rectifier, then flasher unit is inboard. The rectifier has been replaced with a cheapo solid state one, I'm pretty sure I haven't removed the flasher from the frame since I bought the bike in 1995, I removed the turn signals in 1996 or so.

Agree this is what my '73 750 had and the 850 should be the same. The flasher unit was originally a Lucas part - retangular can that inserted into a clip that is bolted to the rear side fof the frame gusset just inboard of the rectifier. Round cans with "L" bracket were not original fitment at least in '73.
