pray tell all sir??
Hi
Yep used this company a few years back when I restored a Lancia Fulvia, couldn't get some panels like inner wing sections, just took the old panel, gave it to the old guy and he made me 2 new ones left and right, good company, make body panels for loads of models and are really helpful, don't expect a fast turn round, it's the way things work.

I would love to find a pair of steel side covers for my ‘75 Interstate. Seems that fiberglass is all that’s left.
I have been looking for steel side covers for an Interstate and all I could find were ones from India.I want to go to steel so I dont have to look at the pop-rivets
If anyone knows a source it would be appreciated.
thanks

I used side covers from Andover Norton, and they fit and looked fine. The paint has adhered well and looks great.

Assuming those were fiberglass..?

I contacted AN, they currently have no side covers available for my MKIII Interstate, fiberglass or steel.

I’m actually flabbergasted by the fact that side covers are not available anywhere, fiberglass or steel. I realize that the MKIII wasn’t a high volume machine, but it’s seems that a shortage exists for other models as well. I have been able to purchase a number of obscure parts that are being reproduced for the MKIII, but side covers seem to be another story.

Sure would be great if someone would step forward and start producing these. I realize that new ones from India are available, but I am concerned that the quality of those would match most of the fuel tanks being produced. Anyone have a hands on review of those?

cheesehead I feel your pain
MKIII interstate was a different item from earlier Series 2 versions of IS. 72 was fiberglass tank/sidecover. IS was not really all that popular so quantities seem low.
I have 22 nortons and 3 steel IS tank( 1-75 MKIII) with only 1 set of side covers and 2 IS fiberglass tanks that don't play well with E-10, and only 1 set of FG side covers.
There we 2 versions of metal side cover from one stamping? If you find the correct factory steel IS side covers under $250 ea...jump on it

The economics of tooling would make it nonprofitable. Fiberglass tooling may only be $300-400 per side than production cost still $100 per side then add profit?
I used to make fiberglass tooling and a few parts, but it was for me... so I know the labor and $ cost for tooling/molds and production.

So...... in regard to spacing, etc., will roadster side covers work with an interstate tank. Also, can ‘74 MKII side covers be modified to fit on the stock MKIII plastic air box?

Sorry for all the questions, but getting a bit desperate..

Yes they will. Did that for years. Was a bit of a poke to get to the dzus fastener on my 74 due to the big tank tho.

You may want to check this seller from this thread to see if he has any more. Very good value.

I have a nice Interstate tank I have had since the 90s, but I never had the proper side covers and wanted ones with a tool pocket. So, I figured that for $70 (includes shipping) for the pair I could not go wrong. I got my set yesterday, and they are slightly better than I had expected.

The poorest thing was actually the packaging, which was done as a single lump with the two covers nested together with no bubble wrap between them at all. This caused a bit of marring on the inside of the right cover.

The right cover will need some work, as you can see, but no more so than any used cover would I think.

Left cover is pretty good.

If you haven't tried it yet, you will find the 73/74 tool box type roadster side cover will not go on and crashes into the 75 battery tray. Also on the 75 there is no lower peg rubber to push the peg into. MKIII roadster side cover has a better chance to work with IS tank. Later today I could try it.

FWIW, the tool holder can easily be cut out, a small tab can be spot welded on the bottom and a hole put in top for the plastic clip. About an hours worth of work and it will work fine if you want to go down that rabbit hole.

I am looking at modifying a Steel MK II Interstate left side cover to fit a MK III. My ideas are right alon side what you said. Does anyone have a Photo of an OEM steel MK III side cover that I can use for a guide? Inside and outside photos, please.
