Okay - thanks. I'll have a go with what I can find.

You can't go wrong with glass fibre reinforced high-molecular cast or extruded PA (polyamid). These are tough materials with good thermal and chemical resistance who will work from -40 to +80 degrees C. They are easily machineable. Just make sure you paint the part to prevent UV degradation.

Thanks Knut
I have some blocks of hardish (technical term!) plastic blocks that were left over from a project at the aluminium smelter where I worked.
It was used as a packing insulator for 360KA buswork so it has good heat resistance and isn't so hard to scratch paint on the frame.
Cheers
Rob

Grinding the bolt head a little bit to get rid of the sharp edge of the hex makes the spring catching on it a little less ugly. Don't get too grinder happy though, as you could weaken the bolt.

I wouldn't want to worry anyone, but the spring has never touched the head of the bolt on my bike ... One flat washer under the head, and another under the nut. If it's just that it hasn't happened yet, I've covered about 26,000 miles on it. Not a huge amount I know, but ...?

Yeah, mine does not touch, either.
I really like the comnoz idea to support the other end.
Might try to fab a pc that clamps to the frame, with a "leg" sticking out, upon which the stand cd rest while in the folded position. Any ideas?

more details, or at least a picture please

and thanks
