My girl and I love the chopper, but she says it needs a pillion pad.

You're lucky the dark horse was out there when the sporty died. The white horse don't know shit about Harley's.
My knee is still sore from borrowing my friends '67 stroker with the magneto.
Nice rides though all the same.
All the Best.

I did have a set of motorbike rules in that:
(tongue in cheek Fr. Guido Sarducci and Cheech & Chong)
1) she musta hava the 2 biga spoked wheels.
2) she musta bea 2 cylinder so she feels like a motorbike shoulda.
3) she musta bea air only cooled, lacking the additional complexity of the liquid cooling system.
I broke the third rule.

Compared to the Commando a very different animal altogether.

The newest addition, a 2006 Ducati 620 Dark Multistrada. Just bought it for $2500. The seller lowered the price because it has !3,000 miles and is due for it's major maintenance. At the dealership, that's pretty expensive, but no big deal for us do it yourself folks. Very comfortable sort of riding position for an old guy. About the same weight and horsepower as a pre-MKIII 850 Commando with some mild engine mods.

I've never messed with Desmo valve gear. Please post pics when you tackle that job. A Ducati tech at Indy MotoGP told me desmo valve adjustment is an 8-hour pro-rated job for a trained mechanic.

Dang, that's a great price for that Duc...

I think so too. Part of the reason is that it is due for its 20,000 km service, and the PO figured he should deduct $1,000 for that. He still had the receipt for the 10,000 km service, and the dealer charged him $938.00 for that! That included $350 just for labor for the valve adjustment, and $400 just for labor for the rest of the service, plus the cost of parts for the remainder. I just ordered all the parts (new belts, etc.) needed for the service ($202, including shipping), and will do the work myself. Should be interesting. It is my first time with a desmo engine, but at least I have the factory service manual that came with the bike. There are a couple of factory tools needed to measure the valve shims, but I should be able to make them on the lathe. There's also an electronic device used to measure the belt tension, but I think I can manage without that. The cost was also lower because it has scratches on the left side of the fairing from a tip-over. No cracks or serious damage, just scratched paint. Plus it has a small oil leak, that I am 90% sure comes from the O-rings that seal the clutch slave cylinder, a common Ducati problem. On the plus side, I also got a set of Cordura bags, the original silencers, an unused Power Commander, a new rear stand, a new air filter, and some other odds and ends with it.

Always exciting to sort out a new bike.

I got this 1974 Yamaha DT250 in November, did a mild resto. Paid $1200, 4300mi, it was on non-opp so easy to register. Didn't need much, tires, chain, sprockets etc. Only items that weren't original were rear blinkers and passenger pegs. Even had original tires. It had a blue licence plate but the PO decided he wanted to change to a disabled plate, go figure, so the orig plate had to be turned in.

The latest toy - $250!

WoW, great price, anything majorly wrong? looks in pretty good shape, whats the miles.

It was entirely disassembled, and the "doohicky" (balancer chain adjuster) had failed (as they ALL do), cracking the case. JB Weld & a couple of evenings to re-assemble it, and voila! 30K miles, relatively low.

out for a ride yesterday on my Skyteam Ace 315cc. My girlfriend wanted to get in on the act

1992 Yamaha TDM850D, somewhat rare in the 'States, they only imported them in '92 & '93. Got it very reasonably priced from the same guy that sold me the KLR. Picked up a nice Micron header system, working on jetting upgrades. Corbin seat was only good for a photo op; too hard, and slick. I already put the Sargent seat back on.

Great bike, Paul. One of my riding buddies has one that's sneaking up on 100K miles, and still looks and runs great. He has some other more exotic street bikes, but the TDM seems to be his go-to bike for everyday use.

Had it up to 125 effortlessly, just a quick afternoon romp.

Price was unbelievable, but then he sold me an '83 VF750F that had been sitting for $650 and a '98 KLR650 in parts for $250.

Pity you guys didn't get the TRX850 over there. Luverly bike, quite a cult following now. Will bung up a pic of mine when I figure out new pic hosting (probably the big G).

yes Dave they were a good bike. I'm using smugmug.com to load pics seems to be working

Bought this 2008 XL1200R Sportster Roadster about 2 months ago...the only HD that interests me as the Roadster has dual discs, a tach, and taller suspension plus a 4.5g tank on the '08 only. Anyway after some mods (Stage 1, 18" rear wheel from a 2016+ Roadster, Ohlins shocks, better tires, taller and longer seat) it is a very good all rounder and a lot of fun to ride. A bit heavy but the weight is down low so not a problem...

Didn’t some Ducati place at or near Silverstone do courses for their Desmo gear last. . . .century ?
