ALrighty MarshalNorton, I never get tired of viewing center fold beauties!
Prolly slapped together over a couple of weekends and a few evenings eh.
Got enough trophies to set up bike bowling rack!

Thats the look I want to approach in my New Orleans factory gal, Trixie '72,
at least from a couple car lengths distance. Its hopeless for me
to shoot for a show model, just acceptable finish, fit and function.
Was B/G, now its a polyurethane 'yellar' for gas spills and gritty
wipe offs.

Still up in the aire on which type seat looks nicer, feels ok
over the roughs and ain't obvious an after market addition.

Marshall, I assume this was meant for me. The shark pic. That picture has made it around the surf community. Its a fake. Just in case you were concerned.
In 45 years of surfing, I've encountered the Men in the Grey Suits a few times. Nothing too scary though. Just last month I was out at The Bay (Hanalei) with a buncha other guys who were all talking about Jim.
Didja hear about Jim? His board got hit by a shark! I said which Jim, him up there pointing up the line. Yeah. Everybody was calm, nobody was making a beeline for the beach. We thought maybe a fish bumped into his stick. hahah So I hadn't even gotten a wave yet, so I stayed out too. And there was Jim, nonchalontly catching a few waves up the line. Like nothing had happened. I did notice he was trimming his board in a funny way though. Riding it way forward as if he couldn't turn it very well. He caught several more and so did I and after I'd had a few we retreated to the beach to rinse off and before heading home. While showering I noticed everybody on the beach making their way towards one end of it. Where Jim was standing telling his side of the story. I ambled over to hear it from the horses mouth so to speak. It seems the shark had chomped the tail of his board and bitten off 2 of the 3 fins! It held the tail down to almost vertical. Jim slid down off the board right onto the sharks back, straddling it! This must have shocked the shark as never before because nothing ever touches one of these creatures, never mind riding it like a Brahama bull. He scrambled away as fast as he could and so did the shark in the other direction. never to be seen again that day. Jim discovered he could still ride the board so he stayed out and caught a couple more. The waves were that good!

Marshall, I was bidding on a seat like yours on E-Bay and was outbidded. By any chance is that where you got that Norman Hyde seat? Is it comfortable? Your bike looks good.

so sorry that would be me.
I paid $200.00 on ebay for it.
It is very comfortable. I forget how comfy I am till I put the shot stock seat on.
Stock seat goes right to the frame rails when you sit on it.
Keep it for local showing only. This seat stays on remainder of the time.
It has a fiberglass pan and is made very very well.
No makers identification on seat that i've located.
I actually called the seller and he purchased an 850 with it already in place.
He removed it and I guess placed spare stock seat on when he sold commando.
Hey surfdog shark pic not pokin fun at any one person. I just put it up to make it a fun posting.
I figured it was photo shopped but it is certainly cool.
I don't think I'd like to have been that guy bull ridin a maneater....
Now that's a drinkin story especially if someone else can validate it for him.
I don't play with sea life. :shock:

I did look at Norman Hyde's seat selection and it is very similar.
I have a chrome band around the base though and my seat says Norton on the drivers back rest and also its
stenciled Norton in gold along the rear of the seat as the originals.
I do believe it is discontinued as I have not seen another one around for sale w/ the current vendors.
