Should I close the pub?

Right… time for a REAL debate….

We used to have this debate years ago. At the time I was a Newcastle Brown drinker (liver is probably still recovering).

The issue that I discovered, after an extensive research that involved the consumption of much Newkie Brown, was that normally, there was no difference. But the beer in cans was was consistent whereas the beer in bottles was less so and you would often get a slightly different taste and occasionally get a ’bad’ one that did not taste right at all.

I was never told the sunlight idea, but it makes sense. What I was told by a couple of different landlords was that bottle caps do not always seal 100% whereas cans do. We’re only talking ‘micro leakage’ but still not a proper seal.
"Skunky" beer

Poll closed early

Low turn out 23 (?)

Sizeable minority of 5 (?) 23% mocked rather than have their views respected.

Conversation turns to beer 🍻
It was 25 votes to keep it open and 5 to close it when I last looked
The fact that 5 people would like to see it close rather than simply not look at it is weird to me
It means 5 people have actively sought to be offended
And would like to stop other people's enjoyment and that's more than enough to close it
And I guess any other forums on this site!!
It's a sad reflection of the world today IMO
But It's Jerry's site at the end of the day he can do whatever he likes with it we should all respect that

But seriously for a mo’ …

I for one respect their views. But I also respect the views of the majority.

But regarding the outcome, what else should be done? Support the views of the minority over the majority ??

I seriously recommend that people should learn to make better use of the ignore function.

I avoided using it for ages, and have only used it a couple of times.

But, when you have someone that annoys / frustrates / ‘triggers’ you, the ignore function works great.

All of a sudden, all of that noise you don’t like is GONE.

You can still see when an ‘ignored member’ posts something, and you can still choose to click on it, open it, and read it IF YOU WISH.

But unless you do that, it’s basically like that person, and their views, no longer exist on the forum.

So, with use of the ignore function, people can enter the pub as if those people who annoy them aren’t even there. A win-win.

Furthermore, and this is in no way ‘mocking’ anyone… but those who think the pub should be closed because it is bad, simply have to not enter. It really is that simple.

Well, some wide-spread, intensive field testing is the only way know the answer. Any volunteers?

Well articulated. But, isn't it a bit redundant? My OS contains an algorithm to not respond to certain things that do not pose an immediate threat. They are heard, understood, but if the information is inaccurate, corrupted files etc., they are automatically sent to the junk folder.

Oh boy.
Mocked.
I thought we made it through the drama part, back on to laughing, joking & music playing in the background.
It used to be called discussion.
(Also see talking, debate, conversing)
Anyway, for the short term, please just fill out the form, it'll save time when the HFRRT arrives.
Mean time, how about a beer?🍻

No I don’t think it is, not everyone can ‘let go’ that easily.

Turning the other cheek is a social skill that seemed to die long ago, along with the ability to agree to disagree.

There’s something deeply psychological about humans and social media interaction that brings out a very different behaviour IMO. And it’s not a better one !

Great point.
Like cage operators.
The Hurt report published in 1980 makes mention of the primal part of the thinking.

And a joking poke in the ribs delivered with a friendly smile is different than printed words of wry humor.

Despite your removal of the crying emoji from the word ‘mocked’ and the ‘hurt feelings’ report concours, this type of response may explain why ‘staytight‘ posts so infrequently - like others perhaps? My opinion only.

Add that to the right wing politics and conspiracy theory content that is so prevalent here in the pub and we probably arrive at why Jerry started this thread - this is not just my opinion; maybe we should all read the last page of the last 12 closed threads. Deal with that perpetual flouting of the only rule the forum actually has and the problem may be resolved.

Right.
Politics.
Nope.
That is inaccurate.
That is known as satire.

I see a man with a can of gas, looking for any ember to dump it on, shouting FIRE! FIRE!

Maybe leave your gas can outside the pub?

I’ve just had (yet another) brilliant idea…

Jerry…

Set up TWO ‘bar’ forums…

1. Biker bar

2. Wine bar

Biker bar allows a bit of rough n tumble, a bit of leg pulling and rib poking. My bikes better than your bike. Japanese bikes are all shite. Etc.

Wine bar for polite conversation, in hushed tones, only.

Stephen…

The only person who brought politics into that conversation was your good self…

In the wine bar even in hushed tones you will still get leg pulling
It's part of being human

Not me that needed to be convinced.

Should I close the pub?

WHY do you HATE motorcycles?!?!?

‘That’ conversation is part of ‘this’ conversation I think; maybe #82 shows us it was’nt quite over with?

The thread was started to talk about difficulties with contentious content and subsequent interactions - ‘getting out of hand’. Difficult to achieve without reference to the ‘P’ word;)!

Really great news the pub is to stay open. But it could be said, without any real resolution/action - back to business as before then? Is Jerry going to be ok with that?
