Should I close the pub?

I think one of the issues here is that I don't see problems until its too late. I usually only check once a day and sometimes less if I am busy. I have added a "flag" in the pub forum for now, where each post has to be approved by me before it shows up. That will probably help as I will stop things before they get out of control. I hope to be able to remove this later. Lets see how it goes now... The only problem of course is I have to check more often.
But isn't the flag only for the original post, not each reply?

It's usually the replies that derail the threads...

I can select manual approval for Threads & Posts as well as Threads or Posts. For now I am checking and manually approving each post.

Why don't you make access to the pub for VIP members only... and if there ia a complaint...post it... so we know who's upset and why...
That should help and improve adult conversion. .....
Not a bad idea. For now I will moderate the posts. Obviously its not an ideal solution. I need to think about it more. I'll find a better way. Its a busy day at my other job, so will have more thoughts about this later.

An issue with this is that it will stop some users complaining as they don't want to be known who they are and then escalate the situation. I actually want users to complain if they are unhappy so I know when to close threads before they spiral out of control.

I don't disagree with you, and TomU's idea of removing restrictions has merit too. However, when people start acting like children, name calling, defaming, lying, and generally being a-holes it's not a pub. In a pub, no one would dare say some of the things said here since a straight right to the nose might be the response or at least a direct confrontation. Here, it's sometimes a public personal attack. If people would "take it outside" (PM) it would be better for all.
Only ONE GUY here has repeatedly made mention of throwing fists around. Just one guy.
Peace.

The unfortunate thing is I have to go in and moderate it. I am sure its ok for you all. I don't like playing god. Personally I am not politically minded, so don't want to know about these global news and political updates. I don't even watch or read the news. I only read Motorcycle News.

My policy is to close threads based upon user complaints. That seems to work, but for someone to complain, they are usually pissed off by then. Once I close a thread, then the problem poster starts crying to me about why the thread got closed. So I get stuck in the middle lol Gets old.
just let them fight it out, one will flounce off, problem solved ;-)

There are people on this forum whose opinions I value. When you talk with motorcyclists, you are taliking with people who actually do things in their lives. I perticulary respect Nigel ( Fast Edddie), Concours and Jseng. They seem to be really switched on and in touch with reality. I am now fairly old and probably see value where others do not.
What is discussed in The Pub might not seem relevant, however it really is relevant. Motorcyclists are usually motivated people - we need more of them. Thinking independently is important.
I have come to the conclusion that what we can achieve in life, is only limited by our mindsets. Our mindset is created by our envirronment and our conditionong. If we simply accept the status quo, nothing will ever change. We all need money to survive, but money-motivation is very shallow. Doing things 'for the common good' and out of genuine interest is probably a much better way to live. -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0cODqqYyi8

There must be people on this panet who never experience the joy of an adrenalin rush because everything the ever do is remote. My son told me his F1 raxcing car game was 'just like the real thing'. How far from reality can you get ? Even if you flew a jet fighter these days, everything is electronic.

electronic ignition is good

The right decision to stay open I think Jerry, only one pub in town - don’t want us drunkards wobbling all over the place. At the moment there‘s a place for rivets and revs, but also for jokes and junk!

The vast majority use it in a balanced way. There’s a lot of traffic on personal belief systems that often don’t help with harmony but hey, this pub is a ‘freehouse’!

Don’t envy your job mate - but thanks for doing it.

Yes keep it open please it’s a hoot.
But these days everything is political.
Governments of every persuasion have their dirty fat fingers in every cranny of our lives.
An oldie but a goodie, how do you tell when a politician is lying. His lips are moving.

I enjoy most of what there , especially the jokes/humour , some of the other more serious opinion stuff gets old really fast , so I ignore mostly , guess that puts me on the fence …. as far as therapy goes reading bike content here & another couple sites keeps me sane ….
